Question Foglight Mod Problem

Tried to do the foglight mod this weekend and it didnt work. I have a 2001 Lightning I pulled the switch out found the number 2 and the number 12 wire and quickspliced them together with a blue quicksplice that I removed the little bit of plastic in where the wires go. I then put the switch back in and turned on the parking lights and the fog lights didnt light up. Whats the deal? Did I do something wrong or has anyone else with a 01 had the same problem. The lights work just the same as the always did but now there is a splice behind the switch. Is it o.k. to leave it there or should I take it back out? If anyone can offer advice I would appreciate it.

i did the exact same thing, and it worked for me. the only thing i could guess is that maybe when you spliced the wires, they got moved or somthing and are no longer touching the metal part inside of the splice connector.

I have an 01, and I don't remember the numbers of the wires, but I bridged the brown and yellow wires and everything worked as planned. I think I remember someone on here saying it was the #5 and #12, but I don't remember for sure. I do know it was the brown and yellow wires that I bridged.

Talking RESPLICE IT

I would try to resplice it. It sounds like the connector did not splice the two wires together did you get the connector for 14-18 awg wire if not it will not splice the little wire. I did mine I don't know the numbers of the wire but I did the brown and the yellow wire wich is very thin 18-20 gauge. You can also try to crimp a little bit more on the connector that is there a used a needle nose vise grip to crimp mine together.
I hope this helps

Slick

i think they are all color coded, so you should have the right one, cause mine was blue and it works.

Thanks all for your replies. I will mess with it soon as I get off work. If I remember correctly the 12 wire was brown but the 2 wire was white with a black stripe. I will double check this again. I did crimp the hell out of it but one of the wires could of backed out. Will let y'all know if i get it to work.

I think I remember someone saying that the black and white wire was for an 00, but not for sure. Mine is definitely the yellow to brown and all works fine on my 01. Hope I have helped.

hmmm,, sounds like i didn't read anything about correcting the lamp so that way its possible to turn the fog lights on,,, if you did forget to do it, you will need to pull apart the switch assembly and extend a small ramp out in order to get the switch to work.

Mine didn't initially work either. I'd be willing to bet that the wires didn't get spliced correctly. Crimp down the splice a little tighter and see if that helps.

Angry Misinformation

Aggiesvt you were correct. Apparently the #2 and #12 wire should not be spliced together. I read that in an earlier post off of this board. I unhooked the old splice the wrapped the #2 wire in some electrical tape and respliced the brown wire with the yellow and that was that. Thanks again for your replies.
