Computer

i want to get a new computer for my truck beacause my dad said that if i want a chip i have to have a new computer so if something messes up i can swap and reflash put the original in.How much does a new computer cost and how hard are they to put in? Also where all can i get them. Is it still traceable with a new computer if nothing has been done to the original

You will have to have someone ( like the dealer ) reset the computer for your keys everytime you swap them. Not sure ofthe details but the subject has been covered here a number of times. Not sure if anyone ever got 2 computers setup so they could swap at will due to the special keys.

HERE ya go

I happen to have my spare computer in front of me.For a 01 L the part # is 1L3Z12A650BAB - description process 553623-it is a special order.(I think they are year specific)list price is $280.Because my friend is a tech and I only paid $200.There is a core charge of $100 if you keep yours(which I did).So my total was $300.
If you switch it then it will have to be reflashed.I have not switched mine but my friend said he could do it at my house(I forget the name of the tool) to reflash it and reset the keys.He told me that the dealer would not know witch computer was in there so I chipped the one in the truck and the spare will stay sealed in the box if I do not use it and would like to return it.
Replacement only takes a couple minutes. You have to take the computer out to put a chip on anyway.Same process.
Hope this helps

VINNIE

Someone posted that there is something in the serial numbers that says if it's original or replacement parts. Something you may wanna check out.

Wouldn't it just be easier to just lie to your dad?
