Unhappy Well the S/C might need to be replaced

As some might know if you've been reading my post over the past few days my S/C started making bad noises only 3 days after putting in a 2lbs pulley. Anyways I am pretty sure that the numb nuts at Mel Clayton Ford are going to try and jack my in the bum so I'm sure that they are going to try and make me pay for them to install a new S/C. Now they are NOT a certified SVT dealer, as was made obvious when the service manager said that they would probly not be able to find a L super charger because he was sure they didn't make them any more LOL, so I'm going to buy my own and put it in myself. Now am I stupid? Is it harder than I think. All the lines and everything is there already. I just take off the old one, replace gaskets, plug in old hoses, put on belt and that's it right? Oh well, so i figured that I would start asking if there are any other S/C out there that are better. ie just more efficent. I dont want more boost, bc I am running N20 so more is not an option. What are the prices for that M116 s/c i've been hearing about, the one that one of the tunners if making. Anyways. Just some input would help me out here. I'm pretty POed. I knew something would eventually break. I just didn't think it would happen so soon and to the S/C. Oh well it could have been worse... like the rods and block.

Later yalls

Mark

Replace the mounting bolts. They are a one shot use.

Lightbulb

Put your old pulley back on and see if it still makes that sound. If it doesn't then there's nothing wrong with it.

Is there any chance that the snout got bent when installing the new pulley?

BTW, don't let them touch the truck. It's a do-it-yourself project. Might take a few hours.

if he did an upper pulley with a pulley puller tool I can't se bending that snout. I've seen stranger things though.

Hey silver-bolt: what mounting bolts are you talking about? I replaced my blower and used the same bolts that came with it and its all good.

just to clear up 2 things. I did a lower pulley so i didn't bend the snout. And they only reason I'm letting them touch it is just in case they decied not to void my warenty. If they dont im all for getting a new S/C. It has to be a bad part. I dont abuse my truck except at the track and even then i do everything to take it easy except for those 400m. So what does a new eaton cost?

I doubt it was hurt due to playing, unless you like to hit the rev limiter alot. And even then I doubt with a 2lb it would be spinning fast enough to cause any issues. These Eatons do make ALOT of noise. Is the fluid good in it? Is it full? I wouldnt just put a stock unit back on it. RTKILLA knows a place that can rebuild your eaton so why not send it there??

RTKILLA, what is that place that does Eaton rebuilds??

BTW, Mark, there is probably nothing wrong with your blower. Most blowers make noise after lower pulley installs. 1) Increased Blower RPM @ idle causes blower cavitation and 2) the aftermarket pulleys do not have the same rubber dampener as the stock pulley.

Hey,

Hopefully there is nothing wrong with your blower. A new Eaton Blower cost around $1,875.00 from the dealer. If you know the dealer, He can sell it to you for around $1,250.00 wholesale cost.

Does the M116 even exist?

If your blower is broke, you can send it to Magnuson for repairs... will be a lot cheaper than a new one. Just a thought.

LISTEN TO ME DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You probally dont need a new s/c. Anybody on here who has done a pully knows that the belt tensionwer after install makes noise.DO NOT REPLACE YOUR S/C!!!!!!

I know it sounds like your S/C
I know you think its your S/C
I know the noise you are talking about,I fought with my dealer over and over about it and when you put on a new adjuster, its still there!

What ypu need to do is call Sal!!!! He will explain exactly what you need top do or JDM!!!Where did you get your pully,Why havent you asked them,They will tell you the same!!!

ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE is to knock off a little tab on your belt tensioner or take the pully off AND put a new tensioner on if you want the noise gone.OIf you want the pully on. then just knock off the tab or live with the noise.YOU DO NOT NEED A NEW BLOWER.LISTEN TO ME!!!!!!!!!

Let me guess ,its sounds like a ralling orbital sound??? Ya I know and alot of us know Listen to me!!!

AS a final anser. The S/C was FAULTY AND COVERED under warenty. I dont really know but the dealer tried to convince me that i over reved it.... i told him that i have dont nothing to the rev limiter ( i hide the chip) and that it would simple be imposible. So since i have less than 15k on my L and I advertise for them. i got a whole NEW eaton for free... install and everything. So now i am running a brand new EATON.... im very happy with the quick return that the dealership gave me. I was scared for a while but I have the L in my garage right now with 23 miles on the eaton and $3.50 worth of gas out of my pocket. So how long would everyone recomend that I take to break in my eaton. I have not broken 2k RPM since I've gotten it. I also let the truck just sit in idle outside my house for about 20min just to let the baby spin

So that's the end of my story...

My blower started making noises after I installed a 2# lower pulley (6,000 miles on that combination). I told the dealer about it, Lincoln / Mercury dealer, and they replaced the supercharger. It makes no noises, and works flawlessly.
