Blown plug story and question
The story:
I blew an original spark plug about a month ago on the way to work, so I had it towed to the dealer. They said it has backed its way out, so they simply put in a new one and replaced the demolished coil pack. 3 weeks later the exact same thing happened, on the same plug, so I had it towed in again. This time they replaced the head. On a side note, they couldn't get the lower pulley off (not sure why that has to come off to replace a head), but they noted on the invoice - "TIME IS FOR BLOWER BALANCER NOT COMING OFF HAD TO DESTROY TO REMOVE". Idiots. Anyway, I got it back after *8* days, and it now idles like crap. Not as bad as it did with a missing spark plug, but bad enough to rattle things in the cab. So I think maybe it just needs a few miles on it, but after 20 miles of city and freeway driving, with a couple of WOT blasts thrown in, the idle is still bad. I called Gomer the advisor and he tells me that Cooter the tech knew about it, but it's normal when one head is replaced, it will go away after a while. It's especially true on a supercharged engine, he added. Ok, except the supercharger is bypassed during idle, it has nothing to do with it.
The question:
Any truth to this about an engine being unbalanced when one head is replaced? Has anybody else experienced a bad idle after swapping one head?
Oh, and they scratched up one of my new headlights, changed around all my equalizer settings, and replaced my air filter without asking and tried to charge me $22.50 for it.

dumba$$es probibly don't know that you have to turn the lower blower pulley CLOCKWISE to take it off.

Mark,
My L had a head replaced, I found out after I bought it, but it runs fine. Don't know if it was rough after install but it's fine now. I guess I didn't help at all............JR
ps: where do cooter and gomer work now???

SLVRLTNG - Since you're from around here, I can recommend that you do not ever take your truck in for service at Evergreen Ford in Issaquah.
I've just spent the last two hours going over the truck and found even more prizes:
The rubber air dam above the intercooler radiator was torn off its fasteners and flipped in front of the radiator blocking all air flow.
The bottom flap was installed wrong and with 2 missing and one broken fasteners.
The power steering cooler fins are all dented up.
They cut the ties holding my fog light wires in place so they are hanging down behind the grill.
And there is oil and coolant all over the place.
Things like this are why I would never buy an extended warranty. I should have done it myself, but the lure of free warranty parts was just too great. Had I done it myself, it would have been done right the first time, done sooner, and the truck would be exactly as it was before.

Apparently Ford dealers have a hard time getting the pulleys off all over... They have ruined 2 2# pullies of mine so far working on head gasket leaks. The Pulley has to come off to get to some cover ....
Of course they blamed my problem on the aftermarket pulley, " if it had been the ford one we could have gotten it off"
Oh yeah they are put on exactly the same... What idiots
They just dont get it....

I bought my Bronco there in '92 and had problems with them back then. Still have the truck but won't go near the place. My L is at Ford of Kirkland right now getting a tie rod replaced. They did my intercooler recall. So far no problems with them...sorry about your experience with Evergreen, but I agree they are pretty bad all around...JR
