what's the best place to tap into dashlights for new autometer gages ?

run a wire over to the ashtray and tap into the light for the cupholder/ashtray as it is controlled by the dimmer also.

 

I agree, that's what I did, too.

Both of the wires to that light in my '99 were
black. There is a white paint dot on the plastic bulb
housing that will indicate which wire is hot.

These wires are also wrapped with the very annoying
factory gooey electrical tape.
