install of gauges
install of gauges
I was wondering what kind of sending units or connections I would have to make to install a Boost Gauge, Air/Fuel Ratio, and Oil Pressure. Any help will be much appreciated.

Hello,
For the boost gage, you only need to install a vacuum T in the boost line that goes to your factory gage. It is a black hose that runs through the firewall just above your gas pedal. You can tap power off of the dash lights (pic one).
For the A/F ratio gage, I wouldn't tap the factory O2 sensor lead like AutoMeter suggests. I have found that (no matter how small the effect) it does mess with the signal to the computer. I bought a one wire O2 sensor for an 88 tempo ($18) and welded a bung into the exhaust for it. I tapped power off of fuse #23 (be sure to put a 5amp fuse in-line). That way it runs independant of the trucks O2 sensors. You can run heated sensors if you want, but they are more expensive and a little more hassle to hook up.
The oil pressure gage should come with a sending unit and instructions as to where to install it. VDO and most digital gages don't come with their own sending units, you have to buy them. The gage company will say which sending unit they recommend.
I believe that some can even use the factory sender.
Hope this helps.
