Mods won't help unless you sell it yourself.

Run your numbers thorugh www.kbb.com and www.edmunds.com to get an approximation of the wholesale/trade-in cost.

As said before, your mods will not help your value. Go to Kellys Blue Book www.KBB.com

If your truck is worth, say, $23k to a Private Party, the dealer can't give you within $3000 of that, so probably around $20k. That said, you're almost always better off selling yourself to save you thousands of dollars (i know, goes without saying).

Unhappy

I just traded in my 01 L on a 2002 F350. It was stock performance wise, had 24,500 miles, tinted windows, Infinity Kappa components, keypad mod and 4 new tires... got $22,000... $700 LESS than I owed on it. Sometimes you have to cut your losses though.

My mother and I went down to a local car dealer to look for a car for her. I asked the dealer to give me a trade in value, just to see what I would get. At the time, my 01 L had only 2800 miles on it. Guess what he offered? $23,000?! I just laughed and laughed!

seeing you asked for a number and not where to find numbers, maybe I can help.REAL numbers for your truck are going to be between 19,000-20,500 REAL $$. That does not mean off sticker that means whether you trade on a $4000 escort or a 40,000 f350 your "ACV' Actual cash value is the same.Ive bought and sold a few and I can assure you without giving fairy tale #s,this is about right.

On the other hand,And Ive been saying this since 99 when i bought my first one. These trucks are not going to depriciate much more than this unless its a salvage title.I willing to bet ,in the next 5 years you will never see lightnings drop below $19,995 RETAIL value. Its one of those vechicles that especially in the used market, are gonna be hard to find.Do you know how hard it is to find a GOOD 93-95?? Or a grand national,or 87 IROC in nice shape???!!My opinion is alot of the 99s are paid for now and its like $$ sitting in the bak.I sure wish I kept my first one!!I gotta start all over in june with my new white 02

Avoid trade if at all possible, but

don't forget sales tax is only on "difference" between new vehicle and your trade allowance. Dependoing on your sales tax rate could easily be a $1000. If you can possibly sell it yourself that is the way to go! Recent economic conditions are unfortunatyely costing a lot of people their jobs. Might not be hard to find 02 or 01 with really low mileage at a great price. Helping fellow L owner get out from under. Also, in some states like Ga. you do not pay sales tax on sales from private party. 25k at 7% = $1750. Sales tax saving a good tactic to use when selling your vehicle- if this is your state law, too!

Humm interesting on that sales tax, i had assumed i would have to pay taxes on 29k when i traded in for a 02 later this year, sooo basically if say i get 24k for my truck in trade, and buy the new one for 29, I will pay taxes on only 5k?

Would seriously rock! What states does this apply?

anybody can feel free to correct me,but think you will only pay tax on 5k difference. If you're trading a L in great shape, still better to sell out right.
