I am taking my 01 in for its first oil change and was wondering if the idler pulley change was something that would be free or do they cost? mine has gotten really bad on sqeaking at idle.It makes me real mad to here it sqeaking like an old car when it is new.

Mine went bad at 400 miles. It's covered under warranty. Mine was making a rattling sound though.

I think its pretty common mine went out at a few thousand miles. The new one has been fine. It was covered.

They replaced my tensioner and the idler pulleys to make sure they got the problem fixed. Don't know the part # cause Ford bought it.

So they replaced both idlers and the tensioner for the blower belt right? I have a slight noise when cold that goes away eventually...

Thats right Jeff, You may have to get with them, take the truck over and let it cool down so they can hear what its doing. Your may be more obvious as the which one needs to be replaced.

If a person were to have any mods on their L do you think they should take them off before attempting any warranty work on this issue?

If you have an upper or lower pulley that you can go back to stock I would. I wouldn't worry about anything else, but my dealer is cool.
