Most would say 8-10k and are full of sh*t. Anytime after 1 k is fine to change to synthetic oil. My motor is living proof that 1k is long enough to wait, possibly sooner.

My motor was tore down for upgrades at 29.9k with 200 passes at the strip, the first of which was under 500 miles. I drove the truck like i stole it from the time it left the dealer lot.

My motor was found to be in excellent condition whith the bearings looking brand new and the only wear to be found is the coating they put on are stock federal mogul pistons. This one piston were the coating was pretty much wore off[which is normal] was within 5 thousanths clearance and factory spec.

My dyno oil was changed at 500 miles and changed to mobil one 0w30 at 1k and every 3k after, somtimes sooner. So unless these experts that tell you you need to wait have proof, and there is only one way to prove [tear it apart at 30k] it. Then don't listen too the sheep that are using the rules from old technology to back up there statements. Seeing is beleiving and everything else is speculative b.s.

Many new high performance vehicles come with Mobil 1 synthetic from the factory. All MB AMG's, C5's & others.

Not to mention porches[spell] and i think vipers.

I speculate that you could run sytnth with a new L motor but that would be a waste as everyone should get rid of the metal shaving filled original oil by at least 500 miles imho.

By the way,my tranny was tore down at 29k and also looked to be in new condition. I credit changing the fluid at 1k and two more times within the 29k for the tranny clutchpacks ect looking new but i also think my motor and tranny were built on a good day at the factory When we abuse are trucks,it is always a good idea to change the fluids more often than what is recommended.

I B Fast how much proof do you want,I have preformed many tests on the lightning oiling problems lately. And try to pass on my findings!I'm glad your engine lucked out!How ever a lot of them have not.I remember when I worked for GM & we had to recall all Vette's Because they were not seating the rings as a result from synthetic oil.Granted I agree 1k should be OK for synthetic But, the 5.4 has proven many wrong! My 00 got synthetic at 2k & my 01 at 3k The 00 did'nt make a peep the 01 Had marbles in a
can!)02 Was done at @ 7k And has been fine. Your the Shepard were the sheep,You have the new technology We have the old!We are R&D men You are a PAINTER!
Have a nice day

I base my info on fact and what my engine builder and i have seen first hand, what is yours based on? As far as the 01's,it is pretty obvious that at least some of them have weaker engines and trannys than the 99-00's and a bigger failure rate to go along with it. But that has nothing to do with when or if you should use synthetic oil and neither does your experience at generous motors. So unless you have an engine that was tore down in good working order and can relate that to the do's and don'ts of sythetetic use then please do not feed the sheep I don't claim to be an expert or a shepard lol. Nor do i want to be but the fact is tearing down motors is the only way to judge whats happening to the internals.Don't shoot the messenger

It may or may not be OK to run synthetic right away. It is, without a doubt, not going to cause any problems to run regular oil for the first 10,000 miles. What is the friggin' hurry to get synthetic oil into your engines?

I've seen commercials on TV where they put Prolong into an engine then removed the oil pan, put it on a lift, and ran it for 20 minutes with a water hose spraying the crank shaft. No damage to the engine. this seems like proof that Prolong works; but, would anyone run this stuff in their engine? No? Well, why would we stop running a regular motor oil in our vehicles, during break in, just because some wild eyed zealot for synthetic oil says it's OK because he did it and it worked out for him.

You say we're full of ****. I say you are the one with poop breath and brown eyes. And what's this fascination with sheep. 'Sounds like a personal problem to me.

Another freakin expert eh, well if this is going to turn into a battle of whits then i quit because i refuse to do battle with the unarmed. This discussion has nothing to do with when or why one should use synthetic oil but rather discounting people who speculate on how long to wait to run it...duhhhhhhh

If said experts...the ones who speculate on when or why to use sythetic don't like it. tuff sh*t

I agree that waiting a little longer does not hurt anything. 1K miles for synthetic scares me that my motor would never get full break in.

I'm changing now, at the preplanned 15K miles.

Burn

My dad told me he used to use Mobil-1 when it first came out ,25-30 years ago. Put in all his new cars, then realized he could"nt afford $5 a quart motor oil every 500 miles ( mobil was very proud of their new oil in the 70"s. The point is , rings that never seat cost $5 every 500 miles. I"ll stick with Dino. PS- my dad also pointed out I could have bought 2 XL F-150"s for what I paid for the L.
