Will I need Densos with a 4# pulley

Mods in sig. Do you think it would be safe to drive with the pulley and stock plugs. I would eventually put in the densos. Some people run with the stock plugs, others don't. It's only a 4#. What's your take.

Changing plugs is just cheap insurance. You might not need them depending on how you chip is set up. If you have not changed your plugs in awhile it's best to put new ones in.IMHO I think NGK 5's or 6's are just as good...and about 80 bucks cheaper. To me the tips on the Denso's are too frail. Like I said that is just my opinion. I used to think that the stockers should be ok also....that's until I burnt 2 plugs up..

Cheap insurance! Have you ever heard of anyone burning the tip off of a Denso plug? I haven't.

Yes but I can't remember who....I'll try to find out. There are most likely 1 L out of 500 maybe less who are running Denso's. MOST people will not pay 90/100 bucks for plugs no matter how good they are. The tune on the chip is the MOST important factor.. I know of allot of L's running stock plugs with a mild street chip. For me pulling the stockers out is just cheap insurance and not really that hard once you get into it anyway. Some people work on their own vehicles less than others so they might ne intimidated on a plug changeout..

Exclamation

Mine developed a high RPM miss going from a 2# to a 4# pulley and I actually ran worse times than with my 2#. That was about a week before one of the guys posted the sparkplug study showing 200+ missfires per minute with the stock versus a maximum of 2 missfires per minute with the Densos(the best of any tested). Both were tested under a higher compression to simulate boost so it seem like a very objective test. I then installed the Densos and the miss went away. If you feel missfires at high RPM to be okay then the stocks are okay. I feel an engine tuned to its most precise abilities will outlast a missfiring one any day, but that's just my opinion.

Changing the plugs looks intimidating at first but once you dig into it with the right tools it goes fairly smooth. I actually look forward to my next change. Haven't come up with a reason to yet though.

Cool

Sal posted on this board a few weeks ago that several people had burned tips on Denso's. He sells both Denso's and NGK's so he had nothing to gain by posting that info. Denso's are not indestructable plugs like most people think. Any plug can be fried under the right conditions. People that paid $90+ dollars for plugs are not beating down the door to tell us about it that has become quite obvious. I've been looking for someone to post but no one has to my knowledge.

The bottom line is no plug is an install and forget about it item with mods installed. Listen for detonation and pull one back out to see how it's burning. If you don't pay attention to what's going on then it's your fault for ignoring it. Sometimes ***** happens even if you're on top of it but not as likely.

The Denso's are well worth the money. A stock plug is good for nothing but stock, anyone who runs them is a fool and deserves the wrath of them letting you down!! LOL

Some of the NGK plugs are nice as well. When I go to my new setup soon I may try some NGK's but I love the denso's for sure!

I had the Desnos installed after talking to Sal because I lost ET and top end after I put the JDM headers, cats and cat back on. I was running the 4lb PSP pulley and chip before and after the header install. If I remember the conversation I had with Sal correctly: he reccomends the NGK BR7s as the cheapest alternative if running a 4lb pulley. However, they are cold plugs and do not burn all the fuel when the engine is cold at start up. He said the DENSOS IT20s were the best plug; burn great when the engine was cold and had the cooler heat range for the increased boost of the 4lb pulley.

I hope to be at Silver Dollar Raceway next Friday night and see if I gained anything from changing them from the TR5s. Will post later. My inital seat-o-meter tells me these are a little more responsive. I will validate soon and post. My 2cents on the subject.

UPDATE:
Ran at SDR tonight to see if the DENSOS IT20s made a difference over the NGKs TR5s. Sal knows his stuff and I ran a 12.891 @ 105.32. Now in the 12 second club. Truck weighed 4886 with me and the lid on. Sure I could loose 200 lbs by removing the rear lid and tail gate. Promised the update on what the DENSOS IT20s did for me. Evaluation is they are worth the money if you want a cool plug that fires when the engine is cold and doesn't miss at high rpms. The BR7s miss when the engine is cold, but no miss at the high rpm.

Densos (or a comparable plug) would be greatly recommended with increased boost.
