My JDM header install
Now that I have got my JDM Headers, Cats & complete Exhaust installed and had some time to drive my truck thought I would jot down my impression on how the install went and seat-of-pants feeling.
I'm not sure why some people had problems, I too had no instructions, however I can figure things out. Plus I know JDM's phone number and I called and asked questions before I got started and prepared myself for what I needed.
I received everything on a Tuesday which included all gaskets, O2 extensions, hangers, headers, cats, mufflers and very nice tips. I already had the bolts. I waited a couple Saturdays to schedule my help. Eddie my son-in-law had volunteered and my son was going to be out of town that day…. figures.
Friday I got a call from Eddie and he was called out on an ER (Emergency Response) and had to go somewhere in Kansas. He’s a firefighter and works for Boots & Coots and he can fill a book with all his Hazardous Material certifications. So, knew my son was out of town so that left me.
Saturday morning I put the truck up on jack stands and removed the front wheels and inside fender wheel covers. I’m not a real mechanic (I’m a computer geek and been doing that for 35 plus years and yea I’m an old fart too) but know how to turn a wrench or two. I surveyed everything under the truck and figured no way I’m going to get the old stuff off without raising truck up another 2 feet and no way I could raise any higher safely. I grabbed the SawAll and when I got through it wasn’t purty, but I had the old exhaust off.
The muffler and exhaust manifolds remained intact. This took about 3 hours by myself which included test fitting the new headers. More about that later. I cleaned up did other chores around the house and goofed off the rest of the day.
My son called Saturday night and he was on his way back from Beaumont Texas and said he would be over Sunday to help.
Sunday… my son showed up (it’s an inside family joke)
and we got started. As I mentioned above I had test fitted the headers cause I needed to know where to drill the holes on the heat shields for the O2 sensor wires and marked them. I drilled my side and was off a little, but my handy dandy rat tail file fixed that. My son did his side and it was perfect (grumble). We started the full install on the right side. I eased the header into the fender well and did not have to remove anything. We just carefully slid them in. Even though I had header bolts we decided to use the old studs they screwed in better.
Next was the left side…. the header was installed from the bottom up. Again nothing was removed to do this and this side took less time. Next were the cats. We just put one bolt in the top of the flange so we could swivel some when we put the pipes on. Pipe went on real easy and snugged the 3 bolts down some. Now came the mufflers. We got the hangers and my son wondered which one goes where. We looked at them and one said left and the other said right. Another no brainer….. got the mufflers and slid them on the hangers slipped the left side pipe in and then the right side pipe. Damn they fit perfect and another no brainer. Next came the tips with their pipes. Simple slip on. This was too easy .
Now to tighten everything up. This was easy too
The fit, finish and quality is second to none. Not only do they look nice they also sound nice and really turn heads. Seat-of- pants feeling is, we picked up more torque and it pulls much harder.

You're makin' us ol' timers look good!
I had JDM's Magnaflow c/b installed(the guy ripped me off for $40.00
) a few weeks ago. Same quality and ease of installation(I should'a tried it myself
)--and sound--so sweet.
