Got chip, got ping. Gas?
Got a new chip for my 2001 L. Quite noticeable improvement (translation for MRBBQMAN: mmm...truck go faster...good).
In fact, I got a dual-program, so I can run stock mostly & spare the tranny.
Problem is, when I'm running the chip in hi-perf mode, I've noticed a slight pinging, or something. That's what I'm told it is, anyway. I'm also told that's not real good for the engine, or definitely something.
Anyhoo, if it's a really slight pinging, should I send it back to the tuner for an adjustment, being a brand-spanking new chip, or should I see if I can find a bit higher octane to run?
I'm running 91 now, and the price increases exponentially (MRBBQMAN: mmm...wallet empty...bad) as the octane rating goes up.
Anyone else run into this problem?

If it is a race program, it is recominded that you run some higher octain fuel. If you dont want to pay the extra for race gas or torco, send the chip back and get a hot street program for 91 octain.
On a side note, out L has been pinging on tip in for the last few days. This is because of the dry cool air we are haveing down here in Houston. Detonation is also dependant on weather.
