Question Smoke at startup..normal??

I know this has been covered about 1.2 billion times, but is it normal for the truck to smoke at startup? It just started doing that for the first time, and I just got a new exhaust setup (mag 12468). So just checkin to see if I need to worry about it...thanks!!

Hey JLightning, how many miles are on your truck and what kind of oil are you using?

J:

Could be condensation or an overly 'rich' condition--wouldn't worry about either one. May be unwanted oil in the intake area? Not what I consider 'normal' but just about everyone has it. Undo the clamp that holds the rubber boot to the th/ body and move the boot back a little bit. Oil will probably be puddled or dripping past the th/plates.

If the exaust system is brand-new. It may just be temporary. My new Bassani smoked for a day.

A couple of months ago I took the L in for all the warranty work it needed (I/C, Clunk, etc. etc.). I mentioned that I had smoke on start up and VOILA, they replaced my valve seals no questions asked! Problem is history. Good part of that is they also replaced the head gaskets and had a good visual on the pistons and plugs. Turns out I also had a blown head gasket! Needless to say I was quite pleased with the feeling I just got a new top end exam and fix.... no charge. I had about 9000 miles on my 2000L when I took her in. Good Luck to you too!

it was $142 for the install of the magnaflow and the cutouts, but that included all mandrel bent stainless piping from almost all past the cats, a couple hangers and stuff, took em a little over 2 hous to do it because they had to fabricate the piping, but it ws well worth it I had them move the tips in and up a little when they made it...
