Question Guys with Long Tubes Installed?

Hey Guys,

What is a "Honest" Improved ET that you guys have seen at the track under the same weather conditions?

Thanks,

David,
I posted this info back in June of 2000 when I first added my long tube headers. I saw an 18 HP gain at the rear wheels and that was with a Pro-M 80mm air meter and the FRPP throttle body. Also since these were long tubes I got rid of the cats too. I can say that I saw an honest tenth at the track maybe approaching 2 /10 but not quite there. I knew that something was missing. What was it? My exhaust was like two separate four cylinders running. I added an X-pipe and there was a dynamic change. My horsepower increased even more, I ran my best track speeds and ET's and the truck sounded even better. If you do the exhaust do it as a system and you will get your best rewards.

Mike:

I have the Magnaflow(14568?) muffler-cat-back installed with the stock manifolds and cats. If'when I change to some LT headers, will the 'internal/built-in' X-pipe inside the muffler be sufficient? I don't want the 'noise' of two seperate mufflers but I do want performance.

Thanks,

Dan

Hey BABolt,

I've read a few posts with Long Tubes with high dyno numbers posted and then I've read where the guys at the track have only increased their ET by a 1/10 with them installed. I was hoping for 2-3 tenths for $1,000, 1/10 is not much bang for the buck.

Some people are claiming 30 Hp and 45 lbs of torque and all they are getting with them installed is a 1/10 at the track. I don't see 2-3 tenths as some claim.

I ran a 12.31 a couple of weeks ago with a 5 Lb pulley, ASP upper pulley, JL chip, electric fan and cobra water pump, Stock air box, Stock Converter, Everything else was stock, except for the Nitto drag radials.

I plan on doing the exhaust, I have a Magnaflow muffler(X-Pipe Inside) now and want to add Long tubes with high flow cats. Maybe I'll run my Long Tubes without cats and just the Magnaflow muffler, probably similair to your exhaust BaBolt?

Richard, have you installed headers on your truck yet and been to the track?

thanks

Hey Totaled,

I want your headers

You have proof on the track when you installed your LT's, with no dyno tests.

Yes I do have a good Diablo chip but no JDM/Kooks headers here. I have the JLP/LPP headers

I have the long tube, cats and cat back system from JDM. I actually lost time and top end in the quarter mile. After talking to Sal and we went over my mods, I will be installing the Denso IT20s this week. I assume I got caught up in the spark plug information over 6 months ago when the NGK TR5s were the hot ticket. Now I find out with a 4 lb pulley and headers they are too hot. Will let you know in 2 weeks if there is a difference with the headers after the new plugs are installed.

Hey Ron:

Be sure and wear gloves when you install those Densos . Don't want to mess up that manicure--LOL

Cool

Ron,

They are still a hot ticket. You would be the first to slow down because you are running them.

Be sure to post if you run any faster with the Denso's. I think it's going to come down to a reburn. Go to the denso site and do a crossover from the IT20 to NGK and see what you come up with.

Here's the link. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Masterloggie,

What mufflers are you running?

Why do you think you are running slower? Were you using the same chip? Was the weather conditions and your 60 foots close to the same?

What did you change lately?

thanks

The ambiet air temp was lower by 10 degrees, the barometric pressure was up .2. The truck had ran the week earlier 13.20X @103.5 or better. No mods added except the JDM full meal deal headers and exhaust replacement. The same single Magnaflow muffler Jim (JDM) runs. The chip I use is Sals and that is why I talked to him. He said I should be .3 and 3 MPH faster. If this is not acheived on the next trip to the track, I will put the truck on a dyno and get the air fuel mixture. Then Sal will tune accordingly.
I run slower than Dan at the track because I do not remove my lid or or tail gate. I am not implying I could beat Dan's truck at all if I took those off, because he has the strongest one's in this neck of the woods.

Hey Masterloggie,

What was your time before the headers and cats?

I know, CC and Dan get to go at it this weekend? I may even get in on some action. I've slowed my truck down this past weekend. I removed my ASP upper pulley, It was a b!tch to get off. Backing down on a little boost for a while, maybe save my rods, maybe not.
