Question Fog Light Mod

I need some help on how to do this.Yes I've read the page about it.But.
1.How do you get the panel off?push in or pull it out?
2.When you splice the wires #2 and#12 where do they go back in 2 or 12?
Help please!I am not good at electronics.

Hopefully I can help since I just did the fog light mod to my 01 L earlier this week.

Question 1: The headlight switch panel has a notch in the bottom of it. Take a medium sized screwdriver and start prying the panel out. Once you get it started you can take the screwdriver and work your way around the perimeter of the panel until it comes out. I put a folded paper towel up beside the screwdriver to keep from scratching the dash around the panel.

Question 2: Don't cut any wires! First peel off the electrical tape so you have enough of the wires uncovered to work with. Next, find one of those blue (in my case it was blue) plastic cable splicer connectors. You know, the kind that one wire passes completely thru the connector and then the 2nd wire sticks into the connector halfway at which point you squeeze the metal blade jumper down to connect the two wires together. I don't know what the technical term for this type of cable splicer is. Anyway, take the blue splicer thing and drill out the little plastic divider that keeps the 2nd wire from passing all the way thru. This will allow you to clamp wires 2 and 12 together without cutting either one of them.

So am I understanding correctly.....do you only splice #2 and #12 together, and not back into the assembly.......or do you install the new spliced 2-12 combo back into assembly after splicing them together.....kinda confused!

Sorry,
JC

think of the splice as a "bridge". all it does is connect the 2 wires together in the middle.
the wires are still connected to the truck and to the light switch.. they are not cut in any way..

and actually, the thing is called a "tap" i believe.
butt splices connect 2 wires together, end to end..

here are some butt splices.. they are blue, red, and yellow.

you can see the "tap" in the bottom left corner of my kit..
its the blue thing with 2 holes in it.

what clonetek said

Thanks for posting the pics clonetek. I don't have a camera on hand to take apicture of it plus I've already put my headlight panel back in the dash.

Boostin01L,
You do not need to cut any wires or unplug any of the wires from the headlight plug. Just drill out the plastic piece in the "Tap". Clonetek posted a pic of one in his box. Then all you have to do is push the tap around wires #2 & #12. Take some pliers and push the metal jumper down until it won't go any more. You should see the little plastic lid lock into place.

The "Tap" is just shorting, jumpering, splicing, or what ever you want to call it, the two wires together.

haha, thanks for the laugh guys, the day is really draggin on...most people call those things scotch-locks (i think) should work fine when you drill out the side that has the block in it. I am doing planning on the little fog light mod myself this weekend

Take care and have a great weekend (be careful)
