Anyone else blow a head gasket

Has anyone else blown a head gasket? Is this pretty common? Mine was blown with the stock pully on, do they just replace the gasket or the head to? thanks

i havent but it seams alot of the guys posting in the engine section with the 5.4 are blowing alot of them,i dont think the L's are as frequent because of the aluminum heads

Cool

HI!... The regular 5.4's have aluminum heads too. Actually they have the same heads + cams as the lightning 5.4's. At least all "P.I" "99" and up do.

Chad, I'm sorry to hear that. Is it the passenger side oil leak? or combustion pressure in the radiator?

I understand the passenger side oil/coolant leak can be the result of a poor casting of the block.

I am pretty sure we have Heads & Crank different than a Regular 5.4. If you try to buy them, Ford has a set of heads & crank for a "Power Added Motor" as they call it. This is what the L's have....

Chad, I know that there is a TSB covering some 5.4 blocks, including the Lightning. Apparently there is a defective casting on some engines. You might check Blue Oval news. You might find it there.
