Question Looking for Independant Perfmormance Info RE: Headers

If you have done independant dyno or track compare between stock exhaust and aftermarket headers or exhaust work please post the info here. Looking for independant verification of posted gains.

If you went from
Stock to JBA shortys and changed nothing else tell us how the ET's or dyno numbers changed. please give as much info as possible RE: weather changes between runs.

Same if you changed from stock exhaust to Long tubes.
Or Stock exhaust to Long Tubes and complete exhaust.
Or Stock Exhaust to Cat Back
Or Stock Exhaust ti Magnaflow Muffler.

It is important to know if the exhaust changes were the ONLY mod differences...

Thanks in advance
Doug

I went from stock to the Lightning Performance Headers which are pretty much the same as JL's. I put on high flow cats, H-pipe and twin dynomax race magnums.

Before and after dyno runs at the same dyno; only mods at the time were a filter and avery early 01 chip program. I did this back in May of 2001.

I can send you the .pdf files cuz I'm lazy stupd or both and haven't figured out the posting of pictures. Would you like the files?

Correct me tuners, please, if I am wrong, but, as I understand it........In order for Long Tubes to perform efficiently,.......a chip must be programmed for the new tubes. That will make a comparative analysis (before / after) a little confusing, unless a chip was programed for the long tubes only, with no other performance mods.

Just want to clear this one up. There are no "JL Headers". JL is re-selling/distributing the Lightning Performance Products Headers from www.f150lightning.com

I've been looking for this exact same info. Apparently I was asking the impossible. Either the info was provided by a Tuner (or Tuner's LOYAL follower), or the headers were installed w/ a 3-4 other mods at the same time (effectively skewing the results). Surely there is more than one person that has L-tubes (and isn't affiliated w/ a tuner) that can post proof that the headers are worth the $$$.

Doug - YOu have mail. Please post for the others. As I mentioned I did this about 10 months ago and headers were not a hot topic for some reason back then.

FlashSVT - I try to be careful about making statements on somebody's products that I really don't know myself. The pictures look the same but I do remember a post talking about some minor changes. Just being careful.

Please note that my results are w/o a pulley. some people feel the more boost and hp the better the results. Sounds possible and reasonable but I have never seen a comparison to prove that assertion.

I have talked to JDM about getting a set of his headers and doing a comparison. He indicated we could work something out but I have not followed up cuz I haven't had the time. I think I will go ahead and pursue this. What I've read indicates his system may produce more power. If it does great; if it doesn't then I'll feel like a boob for spending over $3000 on exhaust for 7-12 rwhp. You can see why I am a little reluctant to do headers again. I could put that money toward my short-block and heads.

L Acious - The headers could lean the A/F out a bit which could be good or bad. My results were done without a recalibration and I didn't have the ability to have A/F monitored back then. I have since added and extra bung to the collector on the driver's side and the dyno now has a good A/F meter.

I will also add that my results were similar to JDMs when they were messing around with the same headers.

If anyone wants to contribute to the header comparison fund I am establishing, please e-mail me!

The PDF I got says you went from Stock to chip and filter...
No reference to exhaust. The performance differnce looks JUST like the typical Chip/filter increases. It is the same range I am running with my chip and filter.

That doesnt help...

Plus you cant directly post PDF files.

My only mods are the Magnaflow muffler and K&N filter....do the headers change the exhaust sound at all?
Also i've heard the JBL headers boost rear wheel hp by approx 18 hp....any truth to this?

Sorry Doug,

I sent the file without checking it. I will look for my file with the dyno data; I 've emailed it to a buch of folks.

What I got was approximately 7 peak rwhp / 12 rwhp at around 3300 rpm. I think I got around 17 ft./lbs or rwtq.

I will find my other file or scan the dyno sheets again. I believe this is the best kind of info we can all share and learn from.

Cool

Just want to clear this up:

JDM headers are made by Kooks, not JDM.

No flame intended, they are Kooks headers and JDM sells them through him exclusively for the L.

Hey NeedFourSpeed,

Thanks for posting your findings, we need more independent testing on stuff before we buy.

Can we keep the off topic posts just to defend our tuner to a minimum ??

Lets try to keep this one on topic. Dyno and track info on exhaust mods only

OK Doug,

Wasn't trying defend a certain tuner, I speak to all of them.

Sal sells Kooks headers from JDM, Mark from LFP is coming out with Bassani Long tubes.

Just informimg everyone of their options.

Doug,

If it will help I went from 12.22 to 11.79 with the addition of the LPP/JLP headers and moving from a 4# to a 5#. I would guess maybe a tenth with the larger pulley and the additional time from the headers. The conditions were actually warmer on the 11.79 run but I didn't record the barometer or humidity.

Well just wait till you see the NEW & improved headers from RTP!!!

I would say 3-4 tenths in the 1/4 is what headers & High flow cats are good for...

But you also get a great sound. TOTALEDS truck sounds so mean!!
