octane???

What do you guys think is the highest amount of boost over stock, that we can run these trucks on using 90 octane gasoline.

This is not gasahol, that I am talking about. I posted a thread a while back asking if the L will run on 90 octane, the response I got was yes. But who wants to run a L stock? Not me. I want to beat up on some ricers that I hear are running high 12's and mid13's. These guys are running 20lb's of boost on their 4 bangers. I think that one of the reasons they can get such good 1/4 mile times are because the are 4WD.

I what to whip them and I hope to do it in style, Lightning style.

I wouldn't add any boost if the highest octane available is 90. What is the competition using?

To be safe, I would use Torco Unleaded Accelerator, a race fuel concentrate. It works, over-the-counter octane boosters are almost useless. Go to www.torcoracefuels.com or call 1-800-678-6726.

LIGHTNINROD, I think they are using the same 90 octane, but the reason I was given why they could use this is because of the lower compression in the ricers.

I have been taunted that a "TRUCK" cant beat them. I so want to prove them wrong.

Talk to one of the tuners. I bet one could get a decent program on 90.

There are plenty of L's in CA (and other western states) with 4 and 6# pulleys safely running on 91 octane.

Question

How come you don't just run premium unleaded with a can of 'help' in it. Octane boosters or Toluene. . .something like that?
I know for a fact that Toluene will boost your octane rating over 100 and is not harmful to our fuel systems/O2's/catalytic converters. That in conjunction with a good chip should put you well ahead of the 'ricers' without a pulley.

BTW. . .I am not advocating the use of any octane booster that uses MMT, Zylene, or other potentially harmful (to man or machine) substances.

I was told that octane boosters are not god for L. And they do not really do a good job of incresing octane. 104 may move 90 octane to 90.4 no where close to 91. And to get that done would require alot of octane booster.
