blower pulley cage

blower pulley cage

is there any drawbacks to not having the blower pulley cage on after putting an aftermarket pulley i was talking to a mechanic at work and he said he wouldnt install a new pulley without it he said it needed to be there
all info is appreciated

You do not HAVE to have a cage on your after market pulley. JDM sells the only pulleys with cages. So everyone else uses cageless ones Only drawback I can think of is the little extra weight, but that is not much.

I would say search, but the search is still down (STEVE!!!).

But in theroy the cage is to keep from putting extra stress on the crank from the tension of the blower belt. While that may be all fine a dandy, on these motors it isn't a big concern. I have yet to hear of some one break a motor from crank stress.

There has been a lot of debate on the boards about this. I myself feel more comfortable running a pulley with a cage than without.

This is just a guess but I would think JL and Sal would say you do NOT need a cage and Jim and JJ would say you do.

I must agree Lightnig Boy= extra stress on the crank and bearing over the life of your truck would be detreminal without the cage,ford put it there so your Stock L would see 150,000 miles=longevity= caged!
