Interesting question. I wondered that too. I was told that they have four wheel anti lock brakes.. but then someone told me that it is a 3- channel system.
Which means it has individual sensors on the front two tires and one ensor for the rear- Apparently this is the common?

Can Anyone Confirm this?

I think this is the case because when I am on the brakes pretty hard and turning into my driveway at a slow speed, I can feel the pedal vibrate like the ABS kicked in...

Yes this is true, your rear abs sensor is in the top center of your diff and picks up a signal from a exciter ring thats attached to the ring gear.

Thumbs up

Very interesting info.
After further thought, would benefit very little from having independent sensors on the rear brakes, since the front would lock up first.

Again - thanks
Better to know too much than to not know at all.

John:

I don't think your brake pedal will vibrate from ABS at slow speeds--coming into your driveway. If it's vibrating at slow speeds, that might be a warped rotor but you have an 01 and it's too new to have warped rotors????????

I have felt the brake pedal vibrate (from the ABS) when stopping from what I consider to be reasonable speeds.... Not even slamming on the brakes or anything... It happened in my 2000 L, and does it on my 2001 L also...

I also feel the brake pedal vibrate when coming to a stop with the wheel turned half way or fully turned. Whats up with that??

Have noticed the same thing. Wonder if the tires are sliding a little?

Mine does that too when turning. Probably one tire slowing down too fast and causing sensor to show locking and activating brakes.

QkSilver- Exactly what my conclusion was. Must be the rear brakes thinking 'pending lockup' and kicking in ABS.
Another interesting bit... If from a dead stop I manually shift from 1 to 2 and then have to brake real hard (while in 1st or 2nd), the brakes don't seem to respond nearly as well. Almost missed a turn when this happened :o
Good think this monster can handle
Anyone else experience this? Try it with no traffic around, you'll see what I"m saying.

p.s. I did have the rpm's around 2800-3500 <- I love the sound of the engine rumbling along
