Calm down everyone......sheesh........I didn't mean anything by it other than by asking that question is like asking "What tuner should I use" Everyone has so many different views on this topic, you will never get a straight answer, just a ton of opposing opinions. So if that is what you want then great.

BTW.....If you have been reading the boards for so forking long you should know the answer to this question without even asking it

Increasing boost/ blower r.p.m will eventually wear out bearings and tolerances in your eaton sooner than stock.
However, who wants to drive stock? At 5500 r.p.m. with a 6 pounder your still below maximum limits on your supercharger.
So, save those high r.p.m. moments for the track, road rage, and 1st dates.

I have read this board for a long time, but i always don't remember stuff unless its something i am planning on doing soon.

I have asked DJY1 about his lowered setup probably 10 times now since i cannot search old posts about it. He has always been very helpful everytime to.

I quess i will have to make a notepad from here and starting saving any info i am interested in.

Ashenor: my point exactly.

Krummer: makes sense, sounds like a vote for the 6#.

DaveRed99: so what you're saying is that the motor will blow using a 6# pulley but not 4#. Hmmm, wonder if there's any proof to that?

Soap: no biggie, point well taken.

Everyone,
Thanks for the advice. I'm know all 3 tuners are great. I think my next step is to call all 3 and see what they think regarding a 6#.?.?

FYI: it will be my daily driver, i will take it to the 1/4 once in a while, and i will hammer it on the streets once in a while. I'd like to run low 12's on street tires and i know some of you are, even with the 4# pulleys.

i vote for the 6# i'm currently running a 4#lower and 1# upper. i'm going to be moving to the 6# and 1# upper combo in a couple weeks. I'n My opinion Their is no set boost combo that blows rods ive seen stock,2#,4#,6# blow rods remember lean is mean so make sure you choose a good chip tuner. i also think its a bit of chance weather you got a weak rod or not....also remember the L tuners test their products and wouldn't be selling 6# pulleys if they blew everyones motors up

Hey weedo, I vote on the 6 also. I just installed my new 6 yesterday. Runs great and with the right program no Detonation at all.

Wink other ways to get hp besides pulley...

Weedo,

Here is something to ponder. Creating alot of boost doesn't do much good if your exhaust can't expel it. Hp is produced by the rate at which you can get air in...combust it.. and expel it. You could buy a 4 lb pulley, then get the Long Tube Headers/Exhaust and create more RELIABLE power than installing a 6 lb pulley. If your end result is horsepower....you don't just get it from the pulley. Trying to think out of the box a bit...

Blackjack,

I see your point. The difference is that the 4 & 6# pulleys are the same price, thus more HP/TQ per dollar. I've read that the 6# pulley produced something like 11 or so more HP and around 17 more TQ on an L with a chip/pulley/intake (no exhaust). I wish i could find the post or find out who has tested this. An exhaust will come later, but if i can get more power from a 6# without any more trouble, then i'm sure that's what everyone would do.

It seems the big unknown is whether a 6# pulley is an "less safe" than a 4# pulley. Since that hasn't been proven, i guess that leaves this issue up for debate. Who knows...
Thanks for all the advice!

Post Pulley stats

Weedo,

A 4 lb pulley will give you on average 15 hp and 40 ft-lbs with a chip. A 2 lb pulley gives you on average 10 hp and 30 ft-lbs with a chip. Hope this helps.....

2# 4# 6# Dyno Numbers

These were my dyno numbers when i compared them at the dynoshop!

2# Pulley 8HP and 24Torque over stock

4# Pulley 16HP and 48Torque over stock

6# Pulley 18HP and 58Torque over stock

Keep in mind these are peak numbers, for example the HP numbers for the 4# pulley was nearly 40HP more through the lower rpm band falling to 16HP around 5000rpms at where total peak HP comes in at!Hope this helps!

Weedo, based on the statement you made as to what you do with your truck, I suggest you go with the 4 lb. It's still a HUGE power increase itself. Also, as High Roller pointed out, the power gain from the 4 to the 6 is starts to diminish. You will need a proper chip calibration for either the 4 or 6, but you'll need colder plugs for the 6 than if you have the 4. If you were trying to get every ounce of power out of your truck, I'd say go with the 6. But for a daily driver that's going to see not a ton of track time, go with the 4. Like I said, it's still a ton of power, almost 40 more ft lbs of torque. Besides, on street tires, you'll never be able to take full gain from the 6 lb. The chioce is yours, but this is my suggestion to you.

High Roller

Great info!! You mentioned that the 4# pulley gained around 40hp in the lower rpms (as opposed to 16 at peak); it makes me wonder what the 6# pulley made over that rpm range?.?.?

Do you still have the charts? If so, i would be curious to see a comparison throughout the range (example, HP/TQ per 1,000 rpms).

Thanks again!

Andy

Just remember that if your truck ever acts up and you have a 4-6 lb pulley, You can not just pull the chip out and see if the problem clears up as you will also have to remove the pulley. With a 2-3# pulley-a 5 min test... 4-6# pulley, about 2 hours if you are good.

Wink However...

I just a had a 4 lb pulley installed at JDM this weekeend. I got the NEW interchangeable lower pulley setup. The pulleys are attached to a center hub by Allen Head Bolts. You remove the Bolts, remove the pulley, loosen and pull the belt, and swap a
2 lb or stock pulley. Its takes 15 mins!! Not bad!!! It is pretty slick. Uses the Stock cage and everything..

I had the same problem with making a decission finally I decided on a 2pounder and a 100 wet shot of nitrous for the track. My truck is a daily driver.
