Why doesn't everyone use 6# pulleys?
Why doesn't everyone who has or is thinking about getting a pulley use a 6# pulley? If you're going to buy a 2# or 4#, why not just go for the 6# for the same price? I'm asking because i'm getting ready to order and i keep asking myself why i'm thinking about getting the 4# instead of just going 6#? Is it fear of blowing the motor????

Rods are the weak link....

The weak link in these trucks are the rods....so the chip you get with the pulley is the key.....if it runs too lean you risk breaking a rod.....which aint pretty. You can run low to mid 12's with a 2 or 4 lb pulley with other mods ...on street tires. How fast do you wanna go? |
There are many reason's why to not get the most power you can. I will list only a few...
Change of breaking something... Daily driven Truck will suffer more.... You dont care to run low 12's or high 11's.... Dont have the extra money to replace broken things.... You have seen motors blow from stock to highly modded and wonder how good yours really is.... Thats enuff.... |
What do you consider "enough power". Personaly I think being traction limited at any time in first and having to be careful in second is enough power for the street. 2 or 3# will do that. Every pound of boost will only build more power, heat, load on the rods and get a little closer to the limits of you or the truck.

If you can't decide on the 4# or 6# then go with the 5# pulley.

So if the limit is a 6# lower and 2# upper for the blower, wouldn't "just" a 6# lower be fine? Has it been shown that 6# pulleys are smoking more motors than 4# pulleys? Has anyone ever even tried an 8# pulley (tuners maybe)?
My first fear is getting the 4# pulley and wishing i bought the 6#. My second fear is getting the 6#, smoking the motor, and wondering if it would have happened with a 4#. Which brings up a point, if the motor was going to blow (or break parts), wouldn't it do it on 4# as well as 6#? I know, these are all hypothetical and if we had proof that 6#'s was too much, then that would be the answer... |

Trust me #4 IS ANOUGHT and if you have a good tuner "SAL"!!!!!!! COUGH COUGH!!!!! then you will be very happy with what kinda power you will get, plus i dont think you wana spend 6K plus for a new motor and when you do put a new motor in the truck it will DEvalue the truck! just think would you want a truck that had a blown motor...?? I no I woulnd! Cause then you no some one was beating the peee peee out of it.But if you guna keep it for ever it's all up to you....:p
