Unhappy Street racing? Anyone been caught?

I have to go to court tomorrow morning for allegedly street racing. The two cars in front of me were racing and got away, the officer said he saw me going between 80-90 mph when I passed him(he was sitting on the side of the road). I saw him and wasn't even racing, when about 10 minutes later I was pulled over for allegedly street racing... The penalty is license supension for 6 months! Any suggestions are appreciated when I go to appear in court tomorrow...

I'm sure if you get a good lawyer it might be something easy to dispute. The recent rash of racing related deaths might make it hard for the judge to be forgiving. Cops look for an easy kill to add to their tally and it seems like it was you this time.

Your lucky though, Here in New York they will confiscate your car and in some cases will even convert it into an NYPD vehicle complete with lights, sirens, and white/blue paint job.

generally...

if they lose sight of the vehicle for any length of time, it's possible (reasonable doubt) that your vehicle was not the one seen previously. IOW, if you met the cop coming the opposite way, it would be physically impossible for them to continue driving & maintain visual contact with the vehicle.

You need a continuance, in a major way. You haven't had time to seek legal counsel, as you are in no way prepared. If you in any way value the (relatively) cheap insurance you have now, and for the next 3-5 years, you had better fight tooth & nail to get acquitted. I suggest you 'Find Jesus' & join the NMA at www.motorists.org . They have excellent Lawyer referrals, and you need one yesterday.

Good luck.

All very true statements... The judge I had last week told me he respected me for coming into his court in a suit on crutches!!

I can not say much on this subject directly, but I wouldnt try to FIGHT it to much. Just look good and be respectful. If you were rude to the cop he will bring it up, if you were nice usually they will to....

I got nabbed a while ago for "street racing". 1 am me and a mustang were at a red light, the mustang burned out into 3rd gear, I saw the cop first (that's why I didn't punch it), then cop waited for me to cross the intersection (I was going about 25 mph by then), officer went AROUND me, pulled the stang over, then stood infront of me and pulled me over with his flash light. Anyways, I FINALLY got to court, and ended up pleading no contest (even though it was a bogus ticket), and paidaround $160 and I have traffic school to be completed by this coming March. I'll learn me lesson no to be lined up with a Mustang again, wheater i was racing him or not, the cop saw the mustang burn out, and them me pull slowly away, NO reason to pull me over, I got a ticket b/c the stang driver said ," We were going to race!" What an idiot!

Question

[SS] no, you got a ticket because you STOPPED

Seriously - there's more to this, if the incident happened as you described, even the most assinine traffic cop couldn't have justified a ticket to you.

Only back story that there is, is that I WAS going to race him, now did I?? No. and why not, b/c there was a cop sitting to the right of me. He picked me up, b/c #1 I drive a Lightning at 20 yrs old (young guy + fast truck), and #2 I have no muffler, so even at cruising speeds, it sounds like I'm going ***** out.

ticket read: "Observed engaging in speed contest"

From the cops point of view, he saw a young guy in a fast truck next to a mustang at 1 am who just burned out right when the light turned green.. So, maybe in his eyes, it looked like we were racing, so there's his reason for pulling us BOTH over. Now the idiot in the stang is going to tell him that we were racing, and that's just going to justify his assumption. So there's his reason for giving the ticket. I was pissed, but I'm over it now... somehow, somewhere, there was a screw up on my DMV records that never mentioned that I already had traffic school within the required 3 months, so I get the lucky break of taking it again. I'm going to be doing it online, and at the same site, b/c I already know the answers....

p.s. (Moral) You live and learn... Street racing is bad and dangerous, and if you're going to do it, make sure you look in all directions, and if you can, get away in a legal fashion (as in my story, I should have turned into a near by mini mart place, since I wasn't speeding in the first place), unless it's too late, and you know your caught.

I had to watch MrBBQMAN's video twice, because it's a blast to watch that bike (don't know what brand) blow by that cop car at 171, thats right, 171mph
