I don't know how the filling the oil filter thing started, but it is NOT necessary! An oil filter does not need to bre primed. That only applies to a small pump/large filter combo...like a desiel fuel filter. The oil pumps in the L ,or any vehicle for that matter, is way too strong for a prime on the filter. The oil gets there in a matter of seconds.Avoid the mess!!!

Actually this is the thread, that got the most attention and their is alot of good chatter about the problem. Frank S. even posts the best conclusion I have seen so far on this problem here.

Even that thread alone could go in the FAQ!

Have you ever filled an oil filter with oil? It's not a quick thing to do. It takes a few minutes due to the filter actually absorbing the oil and the process has to be repeated several times to saturate the filter with oil. It keeps absorbing it and the level keeps dropping until it can't take any more.

Now, if I fill my filter with oil and you don't, who's engine will get the most oil? I'm not flaming you but I think that it's an excellent idea.

Oh, that little bit of oil won't make a difference, right? It might make ALL the difference and it doesn't cost a dime to do it.

I got oil changes at something stupid like 500, 1000, 2500, 5000, 8000.

Each time, Royal Purple 5w20.

Until the last change at 8000, I got the changes at Jiffy Lube so I could watch 'em put the oil in. Nobody precharged the filter, that's for sure, 'cause I never heard of such a thing and I'm sure not smart enough to think of it. I appreciate the logic of it, though.

On the last change at 8000, the kid suggested prefilling the filter, and I think he used more than 6 qts total on the vehicle, what with filling the filter and all.

Never, after any of these changes, did I or anyone else know to turn it over at full throttle awhile before starting.

Never, during the whole time I've had the vehicle, have I heard this marble thing.

Probably dumb luck, but I'll take whatever luck I can get, my friend.
