Question the big brake upgrade...

Does anyone know the difference between Brembo kit 1319002A and 1329002A? They are the same price and the specs list the same, but they are two different kits?

Well I am not certain, but Brembo makes these kits for general F-150 and Expedition applications right? They make different kits for 2WD vs. 4WD.

Also, aren't the lugs a bigger size on the newer Lightnings (starting in 2000 or 2001?). That would probably merit having a different kit/rotor.

spike: what did you have to do to get the 99-00 wheels to work with those brakes?

The brembo above were on Dreamin's Lightning. I'm putting on a different setup that won't require 01 wheels or machining and it's 1/3 the cost and the braking power will be the same, maybe better. Plus, the pads won't be as expensive (brembo pads are EXPENSIVE). I may post pix of the setup, but you won't see much!

So how much does "1/3 of the cost" run these days? I may consider doing this one day...

I think I've seen the brembo kits for around $3500.

Both kits are for the 2WD F150...but it may be the hub spacing (12mm vs 14mm bolts), that much wasn't listed on the page.

Spike -- That pic has the Brembo's behind a 1999-2000 wheel, did they have the inside of the rim or something? I thought they didn't fit that wheel, only 2001+ Did they put spacers in?

The brembo kit averages $3500-3600 depending on where you look. It includes stainless lines, etc.

I have some interest in the lower-cost kit you're talking about, but I'm getting anxious.

Dreamin' looks at this board once in a great while, so he's has the better info. What I do remember is that he and Bolt were guinea pigs for Brembo and Brembo provided them ZILCH for the effort. Dreamin ran 2001 wheels and the picture above is probably from Bolt's Lightning (I think he machined the caliper). Here's a picture from last year at Buttonwillow. My red truck (no mods), Dreamin' Lightning (2000 with 2001 wheels and Brembos), Bolt's Lightning (2000 with 2000 wheels and brembos, FMOS Racing (stock with crystallized pads) [IMG]

Regarding the lower cost kit, it's race only. I won't provide the contact. YET, if that's what you're interested in, you will be contacted by the person who makes them (be patient).

I've been following the news on the road race forum, so I've got a ltitle idea how things are going. ... I've been thinking of sticking with the Brembo's though because they're a set, proven, named kit that I can also drive on the road with.

Do you have Bolt's contact info, I'd like to find out what he did to the calipers, I'd prefer not to buy all new wheels.
