When and what pulley to do?
Want to increase the voltage of my L. It only has 150 miles on it, but is my daily driver. First, what pulley should I put on? I want to haul ***, but I don't want to blow my motor. I would like to run at least mid 12's. Second, when should I put the pulley on? From what I've seen Johnny L looks like the place to buy the stuff. I was looking at getting a stage III intake with the Diablo chip and whichever pulley to start. Then a new MAF, throttle body, powercooler, and exhaust. I was also wondering if doing a 2/3 lowering kit will help the handling or will it just make it look cooler? Should I do Eibach? Thanks!
Best advise is to research what you want.Keep reading posts and get as much info as possible. To do mid 12s you will need at least a chip ,pulley and air among other things. I drove mine stock for the first 6 months and now I am modding.Enjoy what you have while learning about the truck.I am glad I waited because there seems to be new stuff coming out every week.New chips, exhausts and pulley sizes .It never seems to stop.
I will not get into tuners because they are all good and take care of there customers. It is personal preference.
With all that said the sky is the limit to the mods that can be done ,but there is no guarantees.Getting a 5000 lb. truck to go mid 12s in the 1/4, reliability will suffer. Just my 2 cents.
Enjoy and congats!

Ya, just what he said!
You can't do enough research!
Adding more boost increases what they call MEP (Mean Effective Pressure) or how much bang happens when that spark plug goes "zap" A stock motor is only designed to take so much bang. I just ordered a 2#'er and would personally not go over 4#'s if you can't afford to replace a part that went "crunch" as a result of a good "bang!"

Take it from a 45 year old engineer that has been in racing for 25 years. I drive the truck 25000 miles a year. I bet I have read 25000 posts on these trucks. After a wile, you start seeing the patterns. As to when...Your warentee is in question with all of this so take you choice. At least with the 2001 and 2001 the rods and lower end bearings may be in question.
First buy a flip chip. The JL chip with detonation control is interesting but I doubt that I would want one in the first year. Let a few hundred other people do the testing. You would not believe what the tuners have learned in the last two years . This will all continue to evolve.
side 1 street
I would suggest a two or three lb pulley for the street. A chip with stock transmission pressures and leave torque reduction turned on. About 5200 to 5400 Max for a shift point. Make sure the tuner knows how good the fuel is that you can easily get and the weather you drive in. Get traction bars with rubber ends (ie not Heims). Air filter and exhaust is your choice depending how much noise you like. If you do filter... get it cool/fresh air. Do the Boost Control Valve trick. For a line mod valve..See http://www.powerglide.com/featured/9...nger_valve.htm Change the stock plugs to whatever your tuner wants. (note:It's a bitch but... check the plugs torque about twice a year.) Mention if you tow with the truck or not. With this setup, you will be traction limited thru first gear and some of second on just about any surface any time. About $1000 total. About 12.8 at 106 depending on weather and traction
side 2 race
Closed loop fuel curves on this side the same as side one so you can switch back and forth without the computer having to relearn. Take your pick but be prepared to buy rods if you go too wild. A changeable top pulley for racing only would be a good compromise. Get drag street slicks. about 12.5 at 108
Hope this helps

Hows this
45 yrs old? You look much older
about checkin them plugs, I wonder if I could do it myself
