I think it was a typo, probably meant 2000 rather than 1999. He said it had been in for almost a year and was completed a couple of months ago.

A head-on accident that wrecks 6 vehicles and the electric fan kit survives, much less works?

Man, if I woulda known that you guys were going to rag on me, I wouldn't have told the story. Geez... sorry. And about the '99 thing... That was confusion on my part. I keep forgetting that it's 2002 already, and I remember the accident was two years ago. I was telling the story to someone else tonight and slipped again, but didn't realize it until my g/f said it happened in December of 2000. And I WASN'T DRIVING the truck when the accident occured. I know it was probably stupid for us to be messing around, but didn't I say I learned to not drive this thing in any kind of slick condition now? I don't know why you're all biting my head off. No offense to most of you, but this is the reason I'm not too fond of this board. Sure, I learn a lot about my truck and whatnot, but I'm not so sure it's worth putting up with all of you guys that just want to bitch at everybody or tell them they're BSing or tell them they're retarded or something. Give me a break... please. And one more thing about the accident... Someone mentioned that they didn't know how the front two trucks slid back and then the cars behind them slid back... Well, I forgot to mention that the front few rows of cars are on a steep incline. I can take a picture of the freagin' dealership tomorrow if you still don't believe me. They move their cars back a few rows whenever it gets slick out now. The road was also repaved in front of the dealership. Why don't you guys believe me, anyway? Sure, I screwed up a little on the date and some minor details, but would I really tell a story about wrecking my L if it weren't true? And someone else mentioned the electric fan... Well, I was surprised that it was fine too, but I promise you the fan is on my current truck and working right now. After all, I did say they drove it up on the wrecker, didn't I? So, the fan couldn't have been like, say, in the pulleys, or it wouldn't have been drivable. Correct? Anyway... I'm done ranting. I just wish you guys would ease up on throwing the BS flag at every little stupid thing. I just wanted to tell my story to others to let them know... and hopefully someone learned something along with myself.

P.S.: Oh yeah... And I've NEVER been in an accident while I was driving. My license was suspended for having 5 speeding tickets and 1 careless driving ticket.

Ok, I know I've said enough already, but I just had to add a couple more things... I mentioned that it was BLACK ICE that we spun out on. Did I mention it was night time? It had rained earlier, but neither me or my g/f knew it was still slick out. This was a REALLY bad spot to be driving. The water always ran off into the street by the dealership and must have frozen there. That's why they repaved the road. No more run off. And the fan that is on my truck was custom fitted by the shop I take my truck to. It was not a Lightning-specific fan. If some of you still need more proof, however, I still have the certificate for the first truck. If you want, I'll scan it and you guys can do a carfax report on it. I know what it'll show... LOTS OF PREVIOUS DAMAGE.

Thanks for posting your story. I'm glad no one was seriously injured in the accident.

I was interested in reading about the accident so that in the future I might avoid wrecking my truck. Obviously, black ice (Is that an oxymoron?) makes any type of driving dangerous.

That being said, the December 1999 date that you cited at the beginning of the message made the whole story suspect.

Good Luck.

Wilk

I'm still eagerly waiting another four or five weeks until I get my L back. Back in January on a rainy Sunday my tranny downshifted while I accelerated out of a construction work area on I-65, and the rear end went a-traveling to starboard. The next 45 seconds were pure hell.

I was wearing my belt, which saved my life. I am impressed with how well the truck took the hit into the wall, especially considering how the F-150s did in the much-ballyhooed Insurance Institute tests of 2001.

I also remember hitting the airbag, which seemed pleasantly soft on my face, but that acrid-smelling powder did hang in the air for a while. Between that dry lubricant powder and the stuck horn the truck did its best to annoy me until I clambered out of the cab.

My glasses were AWOL after the first impact. My wife found them later neatly folded inside a paper sack under the passenger's side seat. Weird!

Anyway, the bill came to $16,550 or so. I am tremendously happy that I wasn't hurt and that I had no passengers. I didn't hit any other cars either, which was doubly fantastic.

The cop showed up on the scene and tagged me for reckless driving, even though neither he nor I knew how fast I was going. I went to court and my lawyer moved to dismiss the charges; the judge granted the motion and the whole stupid mess was thrown out.

Needless to say, I learned the hard way about high horsepower and low traction. What a scary afternoon!

Sorry for rambling - I remember posting a picture of the truck last month but didn't tell the story with it.

Have a safe weekend, guys and gals.

At the very least, you will know from now on that the posters/lurkers on the Lightning Forum are sticklers for detail and you had better post correctly and with a good review of any very long story before you posted it.

I, for one, enjoyed your story but was also pretty skeptical of the details. It was interesting to see how the story played out over the last few days.

Sorry to hear about what happened to your truck etc etc. You must realize that there are some a**holes in here that do nothing but stay online everynight and watch this board like hawks and have no problem picking details apart for the simple fact that they have absolutly nothing better to do. You came on here posted your story to try and help others by telling them about your accident and you get the 5th degree? Personally i think thats bulllsh*t. But hey just my opinion.

Since my sister and her three kids live in Laramie, I'll let her know to stay clear if she see's a Silver Lightning.

This has nothing to do with the wreck. It has everything to do with having a suspended licence for getting "...5 speeding tickets and 1 careless driving ticket."

Only time will tell if you learned anything over the last several months.

...Oh, never mind. You said you drove it even with a suspended licence (you did say you drove it) and then you encouraged your girlfriend to race someone.

I guess you haven't figured it out yet. YOU'RE DANGEROUS.

Spike

This is rediculous. First you guys give me post upon post of bullsh#$ because I screwed up on a few very minor details. I offer proof, so you guys give me crap about how dangerous I am. You're telling me there's no one else in here that street races? Give me a break. Spike, you can tell your sister to watch out for me, but while you're at it you're going to have to tell her to watch out for my '89 silver Mustang coupe, my '83 Wagoneer, my g/f's '97 GT, and I guess my friend's '88 blue Mustang GT... Come on. You can say I'm dangerous all you want, but I just think you're being stupid. You've never seen me drive. And I didn't I mention I have NEVER been in an accident while I was driving? EVER! I have won many autocross events in the Colorado region in underdog cars and have a huge amount of experience on the drag strip. I am also a defensive driver and have avoided MANY accidents that I know most people wouldn't have been able to. Oh... But because the a$$#*le cops in Cheyenne, WY like to give me tickets for coasting down hills 10 mph over the speed limit or screeching my tires coming out of a Mini Mart on a wet road... I'm a dangerous driver. So... Tell your sister to watch out for me, my g/f, and all of my friends, because we're all out to kill her. Oh yeah, and that was my g/f's first and ONLY wreck. And I mentioned I learned, she learned, and I hope everyone learned a little from it, didn't I? Screw this. I was just trying to tell my story letting everyone know what I learned and how they can avoid the same mistake, but I guess I'm just a moron. Whatever. To the people that stuck up for me, I thank you.

Adam

P.S.: By the way Spike, I had a great amount of respect for you for helping me make decisions with my suspension before, but I just lost all of it because of this thread.
