4.10 gear and dyno ?????

How will 4.10 gears effect your hp rating at the dyno? They get you off the line a hell of alot faster, but do they actually read more/less hp? Will the dyno even know the difference? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I was just curious.

Will make no differance. The 4.10 gears just allow the motor to spin up faster when under load.

4:10's and HP #'s

Excuse me, but there will be a difference. The HP and Torque will come on quicker in the RPM band, that's how you got out so hard due to the lowering of the max HP and TQ in the power band. There was also a slight increase in the numbers due to getting the power to the rear wheels, less effort to produce more power.
I got into this a long time ago and everyone laughed at the fact I said the HP #'s were up just with the gears. The motor doesn't make any more HP but the gears help get it to the ground so the "At the rear wheels" HP is up a little.

thats great info right there. i been wondering the same thing and i feel the same way as you do. so naturally there would be some difference on the dyno b/t the 99 and 00's and the 01 and 02's. i definetely wasnt laughing at ya if i read that post.

Cool

I wanted to post my gut feeling on this but I waited. 1BADTK, you confirmed exactly what I was thinking. I've seen people make the comment "did you dyno in 2nd gear" because the numbers seemed a little high but they never seem to pick up on the fact that having a lower gear ratio in drive has that effect too. It's just common sense.

Well if the search button wasn't broke? I would look for the post, somewhere back in 1999. Anyway I kept my mouth shut about it so it would be my little secret, and a few others in the HALO club have taken advantage of it also.
Just my $500.00 opinion since that's how much the setup cost me.

Trap rpm

What RPM do you turn with 4.10s thru the traps on stock tires?

I'm assuming you have a 28" or taller slick on your truck cause most people said that you would need them to make it 1/4 mile in 3rd gear. Do the 4.10 gears launch the truck that much better. this is one of my future mods that I want to get his year with the tranny.
