What i saw today...

hey ford lovas...
You would not believe what iu saw today...I was goin to school this morning and i saw that my gas guage was a little low so i went in to fill my tank and all was well til i saw it... A older man drove in, and parked at the pump across from me and he was driving a white lightning (01 i think) and well on top of the bed there was... A FIBERGLASS TOPPER!!! it looked soo stupid and i was pissed off because of it and i tryed to talk some sense into him but he is using it to pull his 25 foot travel trailer, and he bought the topper to put his generator and towing equiptment in and i didnt want to be disrespectful but that truck looked so gay!!! I can understand the guy wanting a great fast truck but then to put a camper behind it and tow it around FULL TIME??? This guy is retired and pulls that camper around all year so i could find a little meaning in the topper but i asked him what he ran in the quarter just to see if he took it down the strip once in a while and he didnt know and i was drooling on it because i want a l sooo much ever since i drove one and well it was soo beautiful, yet so stupid looking. O well i wanted to see what you guys think about it and i hope yall never do this to your beloved Lightnings...

i think they look ugly on our trucks. But, if I were goin on a camping trip or something were i was goin to spend a lot of time in my truck i would put one on there for the time i used it..but the first i thing i would do when i got home was take it off. if you want to put a topper on a truck and leave it on 24/7 you shouldnt by a lightning.

Maybe he looked at you and thought the same. BTW, a "beloved" Lightning? NOT. It's a truck!

well I just wonered what you guys thoght bout it...well i was at the ford dealer today and i asked my mechanic what he thoght of it and he told me that the guy came in because it was misfiring and wasnt running right and found out the guy was running REGULAR UNLEADED!!! well he also said the engine is really messy and has never been polished or even washed since he got it... o well it is in really poor shape and i am wondering why he didnt just buy a regular f 150 instead... (maybe its the no holds barred look or maybe just the ***** it has) BTW that reminds me of something i found... TRUCK NUTZ they hang from your spare tire holder (www.trucknutz.com) and well every lightning owner should get some... o well have fun, its off to the strp for me...

P.S. A Lightning is a beloved truck, i guess everybody should experience one before they try to talk bad about it

Just remember that we all justify the purchase of the $30,000 pickup truck in different ways. Some of us buy them to pick up women, others to win light to light wagers, others to win at the track, others might like driving the best damm pickup truck on the planet and others may have just liked the blue paint.

I happen to use my truck as a tow vehicle towing 3 jet skis or a 20 foot ski boat or my race car. I also drive my truck 20,000 miles a year. We should feel lucky that Ford builds us one of the most fun to drive and most versatile vehicles ever built. Please learn to cut the people a break. It was his money to spend in a way that makes HIM happy.

Maybe to you. It's just a truck to me. BTW, I have experienced it and am not talking bad about it. Rather, I'm pointing out that, to me, it's a truck, not a "beloved" truck.

Hey Spike the following is meant in jest, no flame!
Just a truck huh? And a woman is just another person with a few different parts right?

Some are just more fun to ride! (um, trucks that is!)

Bingo! Some are just chicks, nothing more. Although, some chicks are beloved. I don't have a problem saying that because most women don't have a problem saying that men are stupid.

Here's my "red" truck several months ago about to tow an ugly cherry picker. I wish I had photos of me towing an ugly log splitter, an ugly ditch witch, and hauling 1500 ft of redwood (several trips to the lumber yard).

It cleans up good though:

Laguna Seca - Morning

Laguna Seca - Evening getting coffee on the drive home

BTW, it has had bird turd on the snug lig the last three days. Oh well! It'll either come off in the rain or get washed off (but not until the rain stops).

Question What is the weight

Just out of curiosity what does one of those toppers weigh doesn't look like it weighs to much. The aerodynamics look like it might help it go a little faster if it doesn't weigh much.. So has anybody ran one to see what it runs in the 1/4 with a topper on it???

I know my snuglid helped with traction problems and less drag due to the extra weight on the bed of the truck!!

I'll hopefully get in the 11's a little later in the year with my topper on. My dads 99, stock except for a mild chip, ran high 13's low 14's full tank of gas 95* and high humidity.

I read somewhere that for resistance to drag a bed cover is best. A topper will give you more resistance, but who knows what model truck with what type of top they were testing. That topper weighs a good 150+ pounds.

Easterisland, If I was going to get a topper that would be the one. What brand is that. Thanks. Bob.
