Important Touch-up Tip for RED Lightning owners
Important Touch-up Tip for RED Lightning owners
After a couple of years of searching, I finally found the PERFECT tint of touchup paint. I mean PERFECT!
Fords E4 code that is supposed to be our color is certainly not the same color.
I did a little airbrush touching-up this week in preparation for a regional show and was really impressed with the way this color matched. I picked up 1/2 dozen bottles for future mods..
It's made by Dupli-Color.
CC Code 382
Chrysler Corp.
Radiant Fire
Clearcoat
1995-1990
Can be found at WalMart, etc.

Oscar:
Rule of thumb is 50/50(thinner & paint) but the touch-up paint is a little thick. 60/40 is a much better solution. Doesn't clog the tips with that ratio.

The touch-up paint is lacquer based. Dries extrememly quick.
I prefer a medium thinner.
Since the dealer drilled my front bumper when it was new for a dealer plate, i'll be fixing the small holes that have painted plugs in them now.
I'll do a step by step if anybody is interested in seeing it done.
Let me know.

First thing is to get a $40 air brush kit.
Black is supposedly easier to touch up since there just aren't that many tints of black.
1. Prep the area well and use 2000+ grit paper.
2. Even though an air brush is very clean, cover everything up so there's no chance of overspray.
3. Don't tape directly around the area you're spraying. You'll see line where the paint layers. Let the airbrush blend into the surrounding paint.
4. Nice light coats.
5. Buff out with wax cleaner/wax. Most of the touch up paints have a clear coat in them.
6. USE A PAPER MASK. You can still enjoy the fumes without getting paint up your nose...

Rich dont know if you have used it but they make tape by 3m called fine line tape. works great for touch up and blending stripes and colors. put it down first than back it up with reg tape. Artie
Jimb:
You can normally buy a starter kit with the air brush, bottle, spare bottle, can of propellant and instructions pretty cheap. Ebay had a bunch of them the last time I looked.
For stuff like touch-ups, I wouldn't spend a bundle on the best one out there.
Artie:
Thanks for the tip.
