Question K&n

Does anyone have the proper part number for the K&N filter that fits the Gen ll L?

Also does it create a noticeable difference in performance or sound?

Thanks !

Whats the differance? I just got my 02 L on Saturday and yesterday looked up the filter at advanced auto's website it didn't have a 1 at the end of the number.... it would be completely normal for them to give someone a wrong part but i was just wondering what the differance was between the two.

Thanks
Johnie

Yes. . .the sound of the blower is slightly more pronounced, especially from outside the truck.

I noticed that my boost went up about 1 lb.

It's worth the $48.00 . . .I think.

There is no difference between the two. Either will work in any year truck.

While I did notice a bit better throttle response after putting in my K&N, dyno tests showed it only gained me 1rwhp. The inlet for the stock airbox can only flow so much air. To get the full benefit, you need to do more, such as open the bottom of the box.

when u say open the bottom of the box.. do u need to do those pipe things going out the front.. or can u just cut a space out and leave it like that...

Also what abou those ( i forget what they are called..) cone shaped filters made by i think K&N that have no box at all....how do those work with the L??

I cut a round hole in the bottom and used 3" tubing to suck in air from behind the lower bumper opening. Picked up almost 10rwhp by doing that. I've heard other people have had good results by just drilling holes in the bottom.

The filter kits work really nice, but are a lot more, around $200. I've got $60 into my setup. Check out these websites for info on those.

Wow! I just got my K&N filter last night, a little V-Day present for the L. I bought it from Summit Racing Catalog for 45.44 shipped. Ordered it on Sunday, here on Thursday. I cut the bottom of my air box, just half of it, and I noticed a little more of a whistle. Performance? I live here in Nebraska, roads are still wet and sandy....... But, it does seem to have a little bettrer throttle response.

Summit is the cheapest, I've checked!

Hope this helps!

When you say "whistle" do you mean blower whine or is the air making a whistling noise as it enters the hole? I'd prefer blower while over whistling any day.

I noticed a little more blower whine, but that was about it. I paid $37.99 at Murray's Discount Autoparts. I think they may be a Michigan only chain though.

Well...... the whistle is only for a breif second when you step on the throttle, then the charming sound of the super charger kick's in.

God I LOVE the sc's whine!!!!

I am also thinking about cutting holes in the bottom of my airbox.
78f1hundo, what size hole did you cut in yours? Square holes or did you use a hole-saw?

The 33-2140-1 has a gasket that the instructions say that you are to apply to your stock box lid for a good seal. The plain old 2140 does not have that. Now if there is a small difference between the lids and boxes on the 99/00 compared to the 01/02 I'm not sure. They do say that without the gasket in place in the top part of the airbox there is a chance for unfilter air to get into the engine. This is just what K&N says...I don't know if I believe it or not. Interesting though that they have that gasket now..
