Syclone Kill

While out for a ride yesterday, out of no where came up along side me was a GMC SYCLONE. After a few looks at each other, we hit it about 35 mph the Syclone instantly jumped me by about half a length. And by the time we were at about 80mph I was a truck length ahead of him?
I pulled off in a parking lot and he followed we talked for a while and I was Impressed that a 91 Syclone bone stock and with 89,000 miles on it was still that strong? I wonder when our L’s are that old and have that kind of mileage on them will they still be going strong? With all the blown engine’s it makes one think!

01SVT, good kill!! I sure hope our engines are still strong at 89K. It would be quite a let down if our engines don't last that long. Course, I'm talking straight stock - no mods.

Good thing you didn't try him from a dead stop.

I think as long as you don't beat the heck out of it it should still be plenty strong at 90K.

Lightbulb Lucky you were rolling!!!

I agree you are lucky you were not from a dead stop he would have ripped you apart I know I had a Typhoon and stock it ran 13.82 and 60 ft time are unbelievable due to AWD but as for as 89,000 mile he is lucky my Typoon hit the bone yard after a few yrs many problems (lemon law) but it was fast ran in the 12's with a few dynotec turbo bolt on's but now that I got a lightning I am glad you took him

I believe what he is trying to say is most street races end before 80 mph... about what the L's run in the 1/8th... that's still about an 1/8th mile short of the 1/4. I've got a buddy with a Typhoon and it's unbelieveable how that thing will launch on street tires ON THE STREET, not the track. Big difference between the two.

i know 13.82 can be beat

I know a stock lightning can easly run much faster than 13.82 but on the street and off the line even in the 1/8 a typhoon or syclone will rip a lightning stock vs. stock plus in a typhoon or syclone you cant go sideways in second thats no FUN but i just wanted to comment on the topic being i have had both trucks thus im no expert but have done my share of driving both trucks
i never see the syclone or typhoons anymore there extinct i think
and it sucks not being able to do a burn out
slick

Thumbs up

If I remember correctly many years ago a comparison was done btw the Syclone & a Ferrari.

Needless to say the Ferrari saw tail lights in the acceleration tests.

For goofs one mag got 0-60mph in 4.6sec in the rain..
I think they were governed to 120mph in stock form.
I don't remember the exact details though..

Nice trucks though, they get a thumbs up from me..

They're pretty fast

My friend has a '92 Typhoon with over 100K on it and a few minor bolt ons. We've street raced a few times (my 01 L is stock with about 6000K on it) and nobody has a clear edge. I keep waiting for him to sell it because I'd love to have it. The L needs company!

I wish Ford would come out with a pickup that was AWD with a 5.4 twin turbo.

If they could build one that wouldn't blow apart then I might buy one. Untill then I will keep my Supercab 4X4 and look forward to a Mustang in a few years.

Those Typhoon and Syclones I beleive use the same V6 that came in the Grand national and Turbo Regals. They can push some serious power. I saw one in a magazine puting out over 1400hp! Yes that was out of a V6!

I love the Lightning but like some say, "It gets a bit unnerving when you punch it and the rear slides out".

No I would never flame the Lighting because it is one of my favorite trucks so don't think I'm going there. I would just like to see FORD enhance the project and make them unstopable! Forget the Ferarri place it next to a Diablo!! Maybe even put a Dirt bike or ATV in the back while doing it.

The Buicks had a 3.8 Liter V6 Syclone and Typhoons have a 4.3 Liter V6
