Cool Guage selections?

Just received my Lo-Tek guage pod (3-unit piece) and I was just wondering what operations/functions are the most critical to monitor?

I want to do this right the first time out so any help you can give me would be great. Thanks!

First of all you should have got the Autometer 3-gauge pod.
The fit is WAY better IMHO.

But to answer your question. I think fuel pressure is important (especially if you run NO2), A/F ratios are important but you should get one that only measures the ratio at WOT, the autometer one is just a cool light show. I also got boost, not because it is important to monitor but because it is cool to say you are pushing 14+ psi through your L I also think that a trans temp gauge or an EGT gauge would be beneficial.

I went with a tranny temp and oil temp. Not in yet, bought Autometer Phantom gauges. ANyone know where I can tap in to gauge illumination so they dim and bright with the panel gauges?

Smile Dimmer switch

Well Gregg since you helped me......maybe I can offer some help to you.

I tapped into the same dimmer switch from the instrument cluster. If you pull out the switch and dimmer panel (left of steering wheel) you will easily be able to do it. I just used a test probe on the "dimmer part" and there she was. Just use one of those 2-into-1 wire taps from the local parts store. This is also a great time to do the "foglight mod" while you have it out of the dash.

Hope that helped.......Joe

BTW.....I have read that some people have tapped into the light from the ashtray (I think it dims too). But I dont see a need to run wires all the way over there when you can just do it at the dimmer switch.

Gregg,

Soap's idea is good Ashtray tap works well also. I did this on L_Acious's new True Blue a week ago and on mine yesterday.

I wouldn't bother with an a/f guage. Since the O2s are narrow band sensors, the guage can't help much.

Gauge pod

I have a huge gap between the dash and the pillar. I was wondering, does the gauge pod fill in that gap? I can't tell by the pictures that have been posted.

Thanks

Gauge

Just a clarification, since I have a gap, do you thing the new pod may fill in that gap or part of it.

I've been wanting to order this but I have yet to see one live.
Thanks,
Dion

I dont know what you mean by "new pod". So do you already have a pod in your truck now.

The pod I ordered is Auto Meter #17305. Trust me there will be no gaps at all anywhere (top or bottom). I am picky about my truck and this pod is a great piece. Only catch is that you have to paint it yourself.

As far as gage selection, it depends on what you want to do with the vehicle (ie. nitrous, racing, etc.)

For general usage and maybe a little tuning, I would think that volts (since our L's don't have them), A/F ratio (helpful tuning tool, plus it looks pretty cool with the oscillating LED's),
and either intercooler water temp, or transmission temp.

I installed an autometer boost/vac gage, but will probably take it out, because it reads IDENTICAL to my factory boost gage. But if you plan on making over 10 lbs. of boost, then that would also be a good gage. Exhaust pyrometers are also good tuning tools.

You really can't go wrong with any of them.
