What color are you doing and what parts? Put your thick skin on after you post as most of these guys don't really like the paint on the inside. Too ricey for them.

Enjoy your truck and do what you like.

Yeah definitely wear gloves

I did it on the Ranger, but only because I got a stain on the dash that was never going to come out. Wish the paint was more durable though.

i have never done this before but i can tell you what i know.i did have a couple of tips from a guy i know that works at a body shop. the process i went through was to first wash them with soap and water. then scuff them up with a scotch brite pad. do that real good but not to hard. rinse, dry after you scuff them and wash them, clean them real good with rubbing alcohol. after that your ready to paint. the products i used were from auto zone its call Dupli-color auto spray a primer and paint. they have a lot of factory color matches. i would probably let the parts soak in alcohol over-night cause if you used any vinyl protecter the paint wont stick. the first piece i did came out great. i hope this helps sorry to write you a whole story just wanted to be clear.

I am painting my guage pod to install my guages. At the paint shop, I bought a can (SEM brand) of plastic/vinyl primer. It states on the paint cans, to do just what WhtSvt said without the alcohol. I think the last step would be to spray the primer after cleaning with the alcohol then apply the paint.

Like any kind of painting, the preparation either makes or breaks the job. I have to wonder about the durability of interior paint. Does anyone have experience with how long it holds up?

You are correct sir...........BTW did you find the dark graphite paint you were looking for.
I would like to see the pics of that when it is done. I think you might be the first person to match the columns to the darker dash paint.

Soap,

I gave up on Ford, so far. They will order the paint, two week wait, no match guarantee. I went to my local paint and body supply shop and found some graphite paint (SEM), which, on the cap is very close to the interior pieces.
I am going to try doing a flat black base coat with a thin coat of the graphite to see if it matches. If not, I will keep tinkering until I get the effect I am looking for.
I will definitely post pictures, how else can you stir some avid discussion here?
