non-L tech question, anyone have ideas?

Question non-L tech question, anyone have ideas?

I helped set up a meet for my Jersey boys in Camden with Philly in the background, and when I headed out this morning from North Jersey, I got to about Newark area when all of the sudden my Check Engine Light starts flashing.... I put the car in neutral cruising in the left lane at 80mph, gas it a few times and resume driving, the light dissappears (learned this from before) but after about a mile it comes back on...

I pull over right before exit 136 on the Garden State Parkway, (I live on exit 157) and the car is just beggining to shake a little... I'm like WTF, what did I break this time? This is my 5th Crown Victoria and never anything like this happened before.

I notice the rear is smoking, I come outside and see that there is Steam comming out of the exhaust pipes and there is a strong smell of gas. I run up to the car open the hood, check my fluids and everything is on Normal, the gauges are indicating the same thing.

I take exit 136 and head back home, the car started loosing power significantly on first and than second toll... I hardly made it to home and showed my dad... He replaced Spark Plugs, but the problem remains... If you step on the gas a number of times, hard, there is funkin gasolene pouring out the exhaust pipes!!!

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Please help. The car is going to the shop on Tuesday to get the computer hooked up and codes checked.

the only reason the MIL will flash is a type A misfire, the continous light was just a reminder of a code set afterwards. Ive had a few 4.6 tbirds lately either ground an injector wire from a harness chaffing on a bracket, or the injector driver in the puter just go bad and go low permanently.

unplug each injector one at a time untill the raw fuel stops, or you very very possibly can hydrolock it, bending a rod

oh yea, if you can get the code out of it, or run it at idle for a minute and then pull the plugs to see which one is wet, you will be able to find that cyl quicker. let me know if you need anymore help diag. it.

the one that was wet was (I don't know the numbers of cylinders) but when you are looking head on at the engine its on the left side, and second one from the front, whatever number it is... thast the one that was wet...

we changed all spark plugs but nonetheless the problem persists...

Is your CV a 97 to 99?

Are you positive it's gas?

I'd let the car sit for a few hours and pull that plug again. Check the plug for coolant.
When I worked at the limo company we had a few 97 to 99 4.6 motors crack the heads, usually in cylinders 3 and 4. Our Mercs, E-vans and Expeditions did this.

There was no overheating by the drivers, I'd guess a hidden casting fault. We only had a few that would cause a hot engine misfire and MIL to come on. Most cars would show little or no coolant loss unless they went way over on service intervals.

I think the rough running you're getting is the fail safe cooling strategy coming into play. Even if you get no indication of overheating by the "gauge", the cylinder head temp sensor will pick up the air pocket as supeheated steam and start cutting out 4 cylinders and alternate 4 on and 4 off to try and cool the motor.

just leave the injector unplugged on the cylinder that the plug was wet, thats the only way to make sure you dont hydrolock it and that will stop the raw fuel, just leaving behind a miss on that cyl until you get it fixed. If you had a noid light, i bet if you plug it in the inj harness on that cyl, the light would be on continuous.

Its my 5th Crown Vic Police Interceptor and I've never had this shizzot happen... I also worked as a dispatch for a busy limo company, I called my ex-boss and he said he has no clue WTF could be wrong...

so right now the car is sitting in the garage and will head out to the shop early Monday or Tuesday morning!

This really sux badly, once its fixed I'm selling this car, I missed a meet because of it, how sad! LOL
