Question Fuel smell at idle....

A little over a week ago, I installed a number of new parts. Since then I have had a noticeable fuel smell at idle. I only notice it at stop signs and other traffic related stops. The changes I made were; Densos, 160* stat, and a breather cap. I had my chip reburned for all previous mods plus the breather cap. The colder stat was not added to my reburn list. Am I running too rich or is it likely that I have a fuel leak of some sort?

I'm going to put the L on the dyno on the 15th and will know for sure about the air/fuel ratio then. There is no fuel smell coming from the exhaust tips so I'm worried about the possibility that I may have damaged a fuel component while changing the plugs. I was very careful and don't know what I could have done if this is the case. If the fuel ratio is OK on Friday at the dyno, I guess I'll have to take it to the dealer and have them try to chase it down for me. I've given up on trying to hide my mods from them anyway. If something happens, it wouldn't take a genius to figure out that I've been running a chip at the very least. So, why worry?

Any input would be welcome. Thanks guys!

Roger

Check your injectors and rail fitments. You may have de-seated one when doing the plug install???

Cool

Mine did that back in the day. I was one of the first to try a crankcase breather and mine did the same thing. I really noticed it bad one day when the back glass was open. Everytime I would stop and idle at a light I could smell raw gas.

I talked to Rob G about it one day and he said the computer over compensates for the leaness at idle. The tuners were just starting to tune for this in their programs (at least the one I use was but I can't speak for the others). I had my chip reburned and the problem was gone.

I went through and pressed in on all the fuel injectors and, while I didn't feel anything give, it seems to have helped. Hopefully it's fixed now.

Here is another idea. If you have a fuel guage, it could be your connection of the isolator to the fuel rail is not sealed or too loose. This happened to me a couple of months ago.

Many times you will not feel it "click" back in but if its even the slightest bit off it will leak..Mainly when the engine is ideling and the fuel pressure is the greatest. This is what I feel may have occured with you. Anyway glad to hear it is gone!
