Beer and Plugs

I have been running a Diablo Sport Chip, JL AirKit, and a 3# pulley for about 3000 miles now. I have approx. 8500 miles on my '01L and thought with all this hoopla about blown engines I might as well change the plugs. I bought a set of TR5's and a twelve pack today and was ready to rock.
I pulled the 1st plug on the P side. The Motorcraft Platinum Plug was dry, light brown and clean. I cracked open the first Corona and thought "do I really need to do this"? I looked at the job and thought putting the stock pulley back on looks easier than this! Am I really taking a chance by running the stock plugs with these mods? I know some of you guys have been going back and fourth on this but can we do it again? I need a refresher course.
I am on my 3rd Corona now! So if I have to do it, it's going to have to be tommorrow!!!! You guys are a great source of information. Thank god for this forum.

30 min and I got all 8 coils removed, haven't had one beer yet. But scratched up my hand. Gonna pick up a 6 pack of Corona and bandaids to finish it this weekend.

I have learned:
This job must really sucks for guys with big arms and hands.
This job sucks for short people.
Tall lanky people will do the best.

I was able to do it and as you know I'm not the tall, lanky type. I don't know how you can even see over the grill though!!

I got the heebie-jeebies when I installed my 5 lb pulley with the stock plugs still in there. I ordered 8 BR7EFs from Sal and then pondered some more about the job !

So I said, "C'mon you puke!, how tough can it be?":o I gapped all the NGKs first--you know, the 'hard' part of the job done first. Four and one-half hours later, they were in--plus 1/2 hour off for lunch.

The stock ones had 18,500 miles on them(most with a 3 lb pulley) as a daily driver and a 1/4 miler. At first, I thought they looked 'OK'(looked like the one you described) until I put them under a lighted magnifying glass. The platinum pads on the underside of the ground electrode were gone--worn/boosted away.

Yea, I'm glad it's over--jeez, 10,000 miles will be here too, too soon!

Dan

AHEM ! Yes I have a milk crate and a step ladder which I switch between. In order to reach the back plugs I'm literally laying on the truck.

Dan, I've got that drill down to about 2 1/2 hours now. Having the right tools helps a lot.

I've found a pair of 1/2 finger Kevlar gloves keeps the cuts and scratches to a minimum.

Hey RA6780,
Where are you located in Texas? I need to put mine NGK's in and would be willing to help. Maybe it will only take us a whole day and 12 pack or two between both trucks.

send email to whiter22@attbi.com

I'm located in the metromess (DFW area).

You guys crack me up! Yesterday (after a few beers) I thought maybe I could get away with not changing these plugs. Today (no beers) I know it's got to be done. The dealership here is getting three hours to do these plugs. At $90.00 per hour, I think I will take the $270.00 and by some more beer and have some dancin' girls in the garage tonight!.........WOO HOO!
Thanks
