Angry Upgraded Tranny Broken!

I was out tonight for the 1st time in awhile to do some testing with my truck and put my new nitto drag radials on and have lost almost all of 1st gear completely, truck will hardly move forward in 1st until the tach reaches at least 3000rpms and shifts to second then seems better.I just upgraded my whole tranny with all the bullet proof parts i thought along with new convertor only 2 months ago! When i took off i babied it and still spun let off and nailed it again and it spun furiously through the 1-2 shift and i remember the tach never shifted at 5400 it went right to 6000 and hit the rev limiter and i knew something was very wrong after that. Before this happened tonight i was extremely pleased with my tranny upgrade and my truck has never shifted better. I just hope this is not real serious!

Matt

What kind of parts/Kit did you use to upgrade the transmision?

I am upgrading mine right now, and am curious what you used.

Hope things work out for you.

I now am wondering if it could not be my torque convertor that is bad instead of my upgraded tranny.I have had no hints of any kind that there was a problem developing and have not even beat on the truck much because of winter. Also when starting out in 2nd gear to take off it does the same as in 1st gear will barely move and the revs go above 3000 then it shifts.Hopefully Greg can chime in here for me on his opinion!

That sucks, always something. Maybe you need to sell that truck. You have had it for half a year Might as well buy your 3rd lightning. get a black one.

This is just a guess, but it sounds like you might have broken a front pump gear, which will drop your trans fluid pressure to barely none. When that happens, it usually takes a pretty high rpm to get the vehicle to move. If I can be of any help Matt, just let me know.

Matt, this bites, especially when i have the same upgrades lol. Maybe we both need to get in line for an 03 4valve L or the 03 cobra. Didn't we upgrade are trannys to make them last longer?

Talking

So thats what happened to my clutchpacks. With my clutchpacks and unbalanced manley rods, not to mention my long tubes that are stuck in another dimension but were paid for six weeks ago. I won't be testing my tranny for four more weeks lol.

When they drop the pan make sure there are no signs of metal. If you see any metallic sparkles do not re-use your converter without having it re-built. You cannot flush a converter and remove all the contamination. It must be cut open and each piece cleaned. If they tell you different they are wrong.

Could be the pump and/or converter. First thing, hook a pressure gauge up to the tranny at the line pressure port on the drvers side (it has a 1/8NPT pipe plug in it), run the engine through some ranges and see what the readings are at a given RPM. Low readings and no/little increase on throttle up would indicate pump failure. How's reverse?

E-mail me at GBEvans@peoplepc.com and we can work out how to talk on the phone and figure this out. What parts of mine do you have, I, assuming a Fwd/Dir clutch pack?

G
