Question Pulley and nitrous...?

Ok guys, I just wanted to get some opinions. I have a '00 L with an electric fan, K&N panel filter, full Bassani exhaust, and a 75 shot of nitrous. I am planning on going with a 3lb. pulley also, and was just wondering if this will all work ok without a chip. I guess I'm just a little afraid of chipping my truck because of all the motor and tranny horror stories. I want this truck to last. Anyway, a couple of things to maybe keep in mind are that I live at an elevation of about 7500 ft. so I'm making a couple pounds less boost than the rest of you and the highest available octane around here is 91.

NO!! Dont run ANY extra boost without a chip!!! Then adding a 75 shot??? Your asking for problems. Go with a chip and pulley combo or just go with the NOS(wet shot) only. The combination of pulley and NOS combined is a grenade waiting to go off in my opinion, esp. without a chip!! When you add a pulley your forcing more air into the engine, YOU HAVE TO compensate that with more fuel, otherwise your gonna run lean and go KABOOM!!
Im leary of NOS alltogether, I just dont trust it.
Again, this is MY opinion, and Im sure others will agree with me on most of it.

Personally I would just run a 100hp shot and run the factory pulley. You will save yourself some money, plus it is a lot more efficient to run a little more nitorus than it is to increase the boost! What you really need is chip! It would really help your performance plus it would make the nitrous a lot more safer to run. I am not 100% positive, but I think it is a bad idea to run nitrous without a chip because your L is cutting out 4 cylinders on the 1-2 upshift.

your scared of chipping your truck because of all the motor and tranny horror stories? What do you think nitrous does? And if you are talking about warrente? lol nitrous is worse that a chip if you take it to a dealer.

As long as you have enough fuel and the A/F ratio's are all good, you can do it!

What you want to do is buy yourself an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so you can add more fuel when add the pulley or add more nitrous. You can get one from www.SCperformance.com I just bought one, but I have yet to install it yet. Its a sweet little unit and you should be able to pick them up for about $125 bucks or so.

You also want to make sure you get an EGT tempature sensor so you can monitor the heat coming from the exhaust. I believe 1800 degrees is right around the max, but you better ask someone else for sure. Once you have that, install it on the leanest cylinder which is the #2 if I'm not mistaken. Start your truck off rich and then do some blast and monitor the heat with the EGT. When you get it to a safe level your done! But make sure you do a 1/4 blast so you know what the max is going to be at.

P.S. Make sure run a wet kit

I've heard about all the answers as to which cylinder is the leanest. I think it is #5. That is where the CHT sensor is right? Which cylinder runs the leanest?

RT,
I couldnt find the AFPR on scperformance.com
I searched for it and only found the one for 89-93 tbirds. Is this the one you used? Or do you have to special order it or something?

Its a brand new product that the company ESM that SCperformance works with just released. I've got one of the first one's that works with our trucks and its pretty sweet. I'll take some pics of it when I install it soon. Just give SCperformance a call and tell paul you want the same regulator that I got. He'll know what your talking about and get it for you. Its definetly worth for me, cause when it gets really cold out I can't send my chip back that fast to get a reburn, this should eliminate that.

Hey guys, You may have overlooked that the highest octane available to him is 91 octane. He want's to run a 3LB pulley. He may have a little problem with that low octane.

Correct me if I am wrong. I hate when the octane rating is so low, it does put a limit on modding.

From what I've seen and heard( from the horses mouth) I think TORCO unleaded fuel additive should be your product of choice for low octane fuel. It is a pure supplement with a formula for desired octane ratings. I called TORCO direct and spoke with the dude that had ALL the stats AND comparisons. I was impressed with all the info on fuel he recited that I never knew. It will be my choice for this racing season. Good Luck

Dude, CALL ANY TUNER and they will tell you your nuts for running the NO2 W/O a Chip. Your A/F ratio needs to be set in the "SAFE ZONE" before going w/the extra boost or nitrous!!!
