New supercharger (pics)
New supercharger (pics)
A while back I replaced the supercharger with an updated version with a different coating on the rotors thats garanteed not to flake off and clog up the intercooler. So I thought some of you guys would like to see some pics of it.
I'm still i shock about the flaking rotors!
this blower had 36K on it when I replaced it. I also had a new updated intercooler installed at 36K by the dealer for the recall.

If you've got that much flaking, I would have Ford replace the blower. They are aware of it and I think MRBBQMAN was sucessfull already with it.

whats on the snout cover eaton or svt? and were the rotor gears straight or at an angle. newest ones are at an angle. the teflon coating stickes to itself more than it aheres to the alumium [sp] where the graphite ahears to the alumium more than it self. i have see a set with all the teflon almost all of the coating off at 15k mi. the cooler was pretty pluged up. the anti freeze soakes it off..
Blower flaking
Ive sold my L since then but I wish I had realized the problem at the time... I bought mine new/used with 900 miles on it. Someone had bought it- drove it pretty hard then his credit fell through so I got a killer deal on it but had to do a bunch of warranty work on it to get it back to new- carpet-paint work- trim stuff. But the one problem I didnt fix before I got rid of it was that it never seemed to put out the boost that other L's I drove would register- I even hooked up a separate boost/vaccum gauge on it and drove it to make sure the dash gauge was accurate. Im was a Ford Tech at the time (started writing service now) and do peformance side work and having an L I would work on most of the Lightnings- and it wasnt until the charge air cooler recall that I noticed the flaking you are talking about.
I did my charge air cooler at 3500 miles well before the recall started and had done about 4-5 others before the recall and mine was the only one that had the flaking on the impellers.- So just as a note to any of you--- if it seems like you are loosing boost or just dont have it. You may be developing this problem.
The flaking on mine was minor so I really didn't think much of it until I started doing more of them- no where near as bad as yours.
If you've only got 36000 miles on it then go to your Ford dealer and push the issue- if they wont help get the ford cusotmer service hotline. The only sticking point I can see is that you've already done the work. But you may be able to file for a reimbursement.

There small but you wouldn't believe the amount of air they move when you spin that blower by hand! You can feel it sucking your hand from the top and you can feel the air from coming out from the bottom. the rotors are about 8inches long and about 5 inches wide.
