Talking First time at Track

O.K. I am hooked. Although the driver didn't do so well, the truck did excellent. First run, smoked the tires thru first and into second, let off, got back into it and ran a 13.988 @ 104.55MPH. Second run, left much quicker, less spin, and ran a 13.162 @ 105.95MPH. Let the laughter begin, I know the truck can do better, but hey it was my very first time to ever race on a dragstrip. More details below:

2ND run 1ST run
R/T .774 .749
60' 2.190 2.495
330 5.664 6.339
1/8 8.527 9.282
MPH 85.37 83.72
1000 11.035 11.832
1/4 13.162 13.988
MPH 105.95 104.55

I watch these boards all the time for tips on launching these trucks, but when it comes right down to it, I think it boils down to practice.

Also, I am the type of guy who wants to see everyday performance numbers so all of this was at full factory weight, on 93 pump gas, no additives, and on F-1's at a little under 30 pounds of pressure. The days temps couldn't have been much better for the supercharger, mid 50's with moderate humidity.

Very nice numbers...........

Wish I had run mine when it was stock. A 13.162 on F1s is excellant!

Well,

I am not stock, but lightly modified. I am running a 2# pulley, chip and filter, but I think what had a lot to do with my second run is the new pinion snubber that Mike T. is distributing. I adjusted it more on my second run and it made a BIG difference. It planted the tires on the second run much better than the first run. After more adjustments, I think that will help tremendously both on the street and on the track. I also had my truck on a dyno last Friday. PK HP was 373.1 and PK torque was 445.9 at the wheels. Again, all this is with 93 octane pump gas at normal operating temps. I am running pretty conservative with all my mods as I still use my truck to pull a pretty hefty boat. I did not have the pinion snubber on with the dyno run. I think it would have helped a little bit as the straps were giving pretty significantly when the truck was doing the pulls.

Hey AggieSVT either way stock or slightly modded those are good time. Specially since that was your first time to race at the track. I have ever raced anything at a track YET!!!! I will make it a point to do it this year and hope to have numbers like yours I bet you keep it up and soon you will see the 12's.
Good luck Dageon

It is a device that basically keeps the rear end from twisting up and forces the tires down when you are taking off. If you ever saw some of the old Dodge muscle cars, they had some sort of a snubber under them. It goes above the hogs head of the rear end and tries to use the torque (twist) of the rear end to pick up the truck and force the tires to the road. Pretty neat device when you think about how it works. It bolts to the bottom of the bed very easily and so far seems to work as it was intended.

Black Bomber,

You were right, racing the L will hook you in a heartbeat!! I was soooo nervous the first run. Then I couldn't wait to get back to do the second run. I would have done more, but the line was so bad. I think I heard them announce there were 270 vehicles that had registered to race that day. At almost 2 hours between run wait times, I just couldn't do a third run. I think my next mod will be some SLICKS to get me into the 12's!!!!

May be wishful thinking, but as close as I was on F'1's, I don't think it will be tooo far out of reach with slicks

Contact Mike Troyer at Performance Products, (540) 862-9515. He can give you more details, and you can buy it from him.
P.S. He is one great guy to work with!

Thumbs up

Yep...that was a HUGE line. I was the same way my first run...I drove straight back to the staging lines for another run! I was stock back then & did 13.5 three times in a row. With my slicks & 100 shot I'm hoping to do better. I hear Hallsville is the place to go (long drive from C.S. - - it's out I-20 by Tyler someplace). Again, congrats to you!

Traction for the Lightning!

Hi AggieSVT,

Thanks for your post & glad to hear you're enjoying our new traction aid for the rear suspension, our Performance Products Lightning Pinion Snubber.

It has shown very nice differences in these Lightnings, and harnesses the torque that would normally be wasted attempting to lift one of the rear wheels, and redirct it back to the third member to plant the tires to the pavement using that torque.

We have made and used various products of that same type for different vehicles over the years, but this is now also available specifically for the Lightning, the same unit fits all model years of the supercharged 2nd-generation Lightning with anything from stock ride height to those with 2" or even greater rear drops, etc.

These units are now in stock and shipping, anyone who is interested should please give us a call or shot us an email!

Good luck AggieSVT!

Do you use any other traction control device, like traction bars?
