Speaker Question-
Ok, I'm kinda looking for ideas for what to replace the stock speakers in my L- I've already got the MTX Thunderform installed, hence the problem, I'm drowning out everything else-
What have you guys had the best luck with, and best sound with?
TIA,
Chris

Yeah, I've read alot of good things about the DX7's on this board- but I'm just trying to decide if I want to go with something like that, or a component set, or maybe even QForms...
Gee, I'd like to know where all this money is coming from. The wife had better get a second job. I would, but I don't have the time with having to work on my truck and all.

Cherring, it's just my taste, but I have a set of infinite 6.5 kapa perfect components. All my friends have systems in their cars, and I would have to say that mine sounds the best. Maybe thats a little bias, but Owell. I would stay away from kick panels, unless you get some custom one which are a pretty penny. The Q-logics have no backing and are very weak. either way any aftermarket speaker is going to improve the sound by leaps and bounds. If you need any help with anything e-mail me. I'm no expert, but I have put in many systems, enjoy doing it and am willing to help.

Thx, Dageon-
I was mainly looking at the Q's because I like the way the application looks- and hadn't really found anything about how they sound. Thx for your advice.
As far as components go, I bought my truck used, and I believe the previous owner had components installed (hard to tell for sure, as the dumbass gutted the speakers out of the truck before he traded it) so I've got just some Blau 5x7's in there now, along with a Thunderform-
Do you have any pics of your install? I'd like to see your placement if possible-
Thanks!

Hey Chris, I'm at work right now so no camera. I will though take some pictures for you when I get home. If you do go with the Q's. I would see about coating the inside of them to make them sturdier. They are real thin plastic. I will get back to you around four w/ some pics. Dageon

If your looking for a direct replacement speaker go with either the Polk DX7, or the Pioneer 6x8's with the horn tweeter (don't know model #).
If you don't mind do some modifications and extra work get a set of 6 1/2 components and make a mounting plate.

Consider going with 6.5s before just dropping in another set of 5x7 (6x8). 6.5s will provide better bass response, be more linear under high power, and there is a great selection of 6.5s out there. Let me know how much you plan on spending and I can help ya better with what you can get.
Deus-
Hmmm, I think I'd like to stay below $150- I've already spent about $650 on misc (deck, amp, Thunderform) and don't want to go too overboard.
Also, as far as a mounting plate, what is most commonly used?
TIA.

Ok the stock rear locations are the first thing you need to get out of your head, THEY SUCK! Anything you put back there is going to sound half as loud as is really is and its going to be a waste. If you serious about a good stereo then install a set of these.
. those are the Q-form kick pannels. there about $150 bucks for a new set, they come painted and there easy to install. They aim the sound directly at you and the passenger and make a world of a difference.
Now as far as speakers go, it all depends on your listening. some people like soft dome tweeters cause there more realistic sounding with the voices. there good for opera music and stuff along that nature. I personally like the sound of a good titanium dome tweeter. They will play the louder tiny mosic that is more common with hard rock. Soft dome tweeters would be like an unplugged concert, as where titanium tweeters would be like a full blown speakers from hell concert where you walk out and your ears are ringing.
The best thing you can do is find a real good shop around your area, bring some of your music in there and just listen and see what you like the best.
I've had cermin vegas, alpine's, pioneer's, sony's and I've heard almost everything else from working at at a stereo shop part time and I really like the way my Kicker speakers sound.
I have the 5.25 resolution components (picture).
And I have the 5x7 kicker impulse components in the doors. these are slick speakers cause they use a bridge to seperate the tweeter from the woofer so you get better sound. they also have a tweeter that swivels like most high end components do so you can aim them.
Both of the above speakers come with really nice crossover.
When I bought them new about 1.5 years ago they where 400 for the 5.25's and then 300 for the 5x7's. I have 3 10's in my truck now and I'm still lacking enough bass because my highs are so loud and clean. I'm planning on adding another 10 so we'll see what that sounds like.
I run a phoenix gold ZX450 for the interior speakers. About 75watts RMS per speaker at 4ohms, more then enough.
I have more pics of the stereo in my gallery. The link is in the signature.
good luck, if you need anything else. You can e-mail me if you want.
