Question Best sounding muffler?

Just got a new 2002 Lightning and wanted to get some opinions on what is the best sounding muffler out there? I wasn't going to change it but I think it is hitting the floor of the cab. I hear a knock when I hit any bumps. After going under and looking that is all I can think it is, because it is only about 1/8 to a 1/4 inch away. Anybody else heard of this problem? If I switch the muffler will it void the warranty? Do the tips stay in the same place and can you buy chrome ones from any source? I would like a better sound but not too LOUD. My 5.4 4x4 had a Flowmaster (Delta?) which sounded good. Thanks

mufflers

you might get yelled at for asking that. You can do a search but I think you'll find the overall consensus is going to lean toward Bassani. from what I can gather the Magnaflows are good but either too loud or not loud enough. I'm going to get a Bassani in March. I want loud but less that open headers. And I don't want to hear "helicopters " when I'm cruising.
My heat shield buzzes. Take it back and make them fix it if you're not changing it soon.

Maganflow= Deep louder than stock sound
Bassani= Deep WAY louder than stock sound

They both sound great, the borla is ok but alot of people dont like it. Magnaflow or Bassani is prob the nest you can do for these trucks...

Thumbs up Bassani

Bassani cat-back is the ONLY one for me! The whole system is stainless steel and the tips are polished. In a word, beautiful!

Welcome to the board.

I just noticed you're a new guy! This is a great place to find anything you want for a Lightning. We have several good tuners here that carry all the products you will ever need.

I think he meant that you asked a question that has been covered many times--and he suggested using the 'search' feature but I think it's down for a while?

Welcome,

Dan

I had an exhaust shop install dual Dynomax bottle style mufflers, they sound real good and definetly made an improvement in the HP department. They have a real mellow sound, that is only loud when you step on it. This was a much cheaper alternative to the bassani system. Not even half the price which included the mufflers, install and some sweet stainles steel tips. Just remember that in you 4x4 your exhaust exited out back. With the side exit on the L everything is louder in the cab.

What about flowmaster... 40 series... how do they match up?

If not 40 series... what other series are there?

I will probably be able to let you know shortly. Someone close to me is putting one on their harley this week and I am going to see what it sounds like before I order one. He rebuilds trucks and worships the 40 series for their nice sound. Sounds sweet on all the other fords he has put them on so it should sound awesome on the L.

I used to have the Borla system (muffler and pipes) but could barely tell the difference from stock. So I swapped the mufflers out for Flowmaster 40 Delta and love them. They have a nice rumble but are not too loud like some people who have the Flowmaster 40's have complained about. I highly recommend them. The 50's are little too quite. Good luck,
