Got into it with a newer SS Z28!
Coming home from lunch with the wife and I pull up beside this 01-02 SS. Guy is checking the L out, looking from front to back and Im doing the same to his SS. I goosed it when the light turned green but he didnt wanna play from a stop. So I figure he's not game and cruise on down the highway(speed limit is 70 and Im doing 60.........waiting for him to make a move
) Sure enough, he whips out from behind a truck and starts coming.....FAST!! He gets beside me @60 and I hear him downshift(a damn six speed......uh oh!) so he nails it and jumps a fender and I couldnt pull him but he wasnt going anywhere neither, we shut down about 90. We slow back down to 60 and go again,we both hit it at the same time, I pull 1/2 a truck and stay there up to 120 when we both back out of it. We did the same thing again with the same results! Didnt get a chance to talk to him, but we both gave a big thumbs up. He was shaking his head side to side. I think he was shocked I ran with him from the look on his face!LOL! I was proud of the L running that good with an LS1 from a roll, six speed no less. I know he had atleast aftermarket exhaust from the huge dual square tips hanging out back, loud as ******* too!! Man, what a truck!!
Oh, there wasnt a car in sight ahead of us, so we made a safe run. I really dont like street racing, but we had clear hwy for about 3 miles.

two of my friends have new Z28's. one is a 01, and one is a 02.
they both run mid 12's with just a few "mods". 12.5-12.6!
they cut the bottom of the airbox out, put on flowmasters or dumps, and thats it!

clonetech- Yeah Ive seen a guy run 13.2's with an 02 SS. He went back to the pitts and installed maf ends,filter,lid, and cutout. He went 12.82 his next run. This was when I only had a 2# pulley and chip and my L made three 12.9 runs in a row. Not sure what it will do now, but it pulls alot freakin' harder than the 12.9 run!
The 01-02 LS1's are fast! Not fast enough evidently to take a decent modded L from a roll though! Atleast not this time!
