Free-flowin' Bolt

For those of whom were interested in hearing a response back regarding the removal of the cat converters, it's as follows.

I just recieved word back from my source. He's a tech guy at a local speed shop. He's been pretty good to deal with and knows his stuff. Here's what he had to say.

"The MAF has a direct relationship to your exhaust and hp. Air in and air out. With the cats removed you will most likely exceed the flow of air through the MAF. Which may in turn will cause the check engine to turn on, or other side effects to occur. Results are sketchy. While gaining hp you will most like lose power in the area of torque due to the supercharged/backpressure issue. The minimum recommended is a high-flo cat set up. Naturally aspirated engines would benift from this. But being that your engine relies a lot on, and is very sensitive to air flow and back pressure, it's not recommended that you go through with it."

So after hearing that, it pretty much makes up my mind not to do it.

Some sounds correct, but much of that sounds kinda made up with half facts and half truths.

Talk to people who have actually done it.

Hey Zeus

I agree with you 100 percent!..I think these trucks needs some kinda restriction...Torque is more important with these trucks than horsepower..Torque moves mass and the horsepower is there! I put a magnaflow free flowing muffler on my truck and it slowed it down tremendously..Also i had crimped bends on my pipes to my tips...So i can imagine what taking the cats off would do.. I put my factory muffler back on and had my mandrel bends back..IT felt like i put a mod on the L...i'm happy..I wouldn't change the exhaust for anything! Maybe just a free flow cat system..but thats it

I removed the cats entirely when I put on the long tube headers. Added an x-pipe, put the original muffler back on, and she runs like a banchee.......

I have changed a few other thing though........see sig

The loss of tourqe when removing the cats has been common knowledge for two years,at least on a chipped and filtered gen 2. What has yet to be seen is what happens on a gen 2 with long tubes and big pulleys when you remove the cats. If anyone does this testing on a dyno or better yet on the 1320,there are more than a few that would be interested in the results.
