smooth side-steps

hey,

A few threads back there was a discussion on sidesteps that the Ye Old Body Shop are sellling. There was no mention of price so I called them. They want $175. for the pair. Does anybody else think this price is way to high? I was expecting more like $100. Man, I just got a pair of electric Street Scene mirrors and they were cheaper than these. I think they should be priced comparable to a smooth wiper cowl for example which are about a 100 bucks. They are a similar product, don't you think?

I guess the only reason for me writting this thread is maybe other people feel the same and we could get the price down with a group-buy or something. I guess it's worth a shot.

let me know if anybody is interested.

If not, is anybody else selling these?

I may be wrong but it seems to me that when this first came out about a year or so ago, they were selling for less than $100. Maybe Rich can verify this. Of course I could be totally wrong.

I called him last week and he quoted me a price of $187 delivered. Postal money order only. From talking to him I came to the conclusion that he didn't care if he sold any.

If you've ever worked with fiberglass you will probably understand why. It's a nasty job.

That wiper cowl wasn't cheap($180 total). More than 1/2 was shipping. So I guess they are right at about the same price.

Is the cowl made of fiberglass or metal? Thanks,

Question Any pics or more info?

What are these exactly? And, does anyone have any pics? I may be interested in these also. Thanks for the help. I also have another question, a dealership down the road has a 01 L with 3000 miles on it for 28,900. This a good deal? Again, thanks for any help.

Some perspective:

The cost was $140'ish two years ago, before the demand. I was his first set. I given out his name and # at least 25 times a month since then.

Keep in mind. These aren't wiper cowls cranked out on a machine or in a factory. These are custom and you won't find them anywhere else. He should be the only one doing the rollpan corners, so expect a decent price for them to.

For under $200, it's a cool mod. You can't beat the quality.

Just my .02

Trenz provided the overlay. Don't know if they still make them. Got this set from Roger Lemere.

I'm thinking BilletandAcrylic could make something similar.

Well, I think i'm going to email them and try to get a difinitive price. The price the guy got of $130 earlier this month doesn't sound bad. I'm going to run this by them and the idea of a group purchase, but highly doubt it's going to get the price down that much.

I'll keep everybody posted
