Help me decide on getting a Lightning instead of a Camaro
Help me decide on getting a Lightning instead of a Camaro
Well I am looking for a new vehicle, and almost sure I'm going to get a Lightning...
I had planned all along to get an LS1 Camaro, and I need your help in changing my mind to get a Lightning. Reasons why i am thinking of not getting an SS, are
1-here in west texas, every other college student has a Camaro, and you dont see too many L's..
2-Camaro's are really *****ty build quality wise, rattles, gaps in body fenders, just cheap..
reasons for getting a Camaro instead of a Lightning
1-much cheaper.. I can get an 98 Z28 for half the price of what some 99 Lightnings are going for, and they are faster stock for stock
2-more interior space, can't go cruising around with 3 friends in a Lightning like I can in a Camaro (although cramped, but I cant tell you how many times I've had 3 people in my fbody, and losing that capability worries me)
one other thing I'm worried about, I like that in my Firebird (current car) and Camaro's, you can drive laid back, I dont like my dad's f150 because I am sitting to upright.. can you lean the L's seat back much? also the pedal position (having to angle your foot backwards more to press the pedal, or lift your leg totally off the floor to press a pedal.. hard to explain) with an fbody you can work the pedals quickly and easily
whats some more reasons why the Lightning is a superior vehicle?

I agree with Clonetek, go test drive and then decide. I would take an L over a Camaro without much thought. I have had a Camaro, a Cobra and now my L. The L is much more fun to drive and gets a lot more attention.
Regarding the sitting position, I thought sitting in that "laid back" position was for the ricer boys? I find the L seats are very comfortable and have good adjustment.
I have also had 3 in the cab of the L.

When I had my cobra I sat laid back too. It's not for ricers, trust me, I was more comfortable that way. I have found though that pushing the L seat a little forward and letting the back down a little bit keeps you from sitting straight up and is pretty comfortable.
Valhalla1, get the camaro.
If you are comparing the L to the Camaro, you have no sense of appreciation for what a fine machine the L is.
You need to get the Camaro and not be an L owner

Dude, I would never get a used L., far too many of them have been thrashed; the owner probably started to feel the first sign of tranny failure.

I have had a few SS's, Z28's, & WS6's. Not to sound like a AHole but they are girls cars. I hate what they have done to the cars over the years. Mustangs are getting almost as bad. If you plan to get one, the Trans AM's interior holds up better. The L will have more resale later....
Check out the depreciation on those cars. A brand new TransAm sells for like 29 grand.....drive it off the lot and bring it back they might give you 25
damn there are some mean folks on this board...

what crawled up your *** and made you want to insult me? I am asking you to give me more of an idea for what a fine machine these trucks are... not insult my intelligence.

uhmm.. well I am not sure, but the fbody's very design makes you sloped back with good access to the pedals, I'm not talking about sitting way the f.uck back with your head hanging out the window and your hat to the side.. I'm talking about comfortable sitting positions.
and I have driven SS's and Z28's by the dozens, I already know what they are capable of, and yes, an stock LS1 fbody is faster than a stock Lightning, but that is not my concern
dealers in this podunk town dont carry lightnings and i dont know anyone who has one, so that makes it hard for me to test drive one.
so because I've never had the pleasure of driving a L yet, and was considering getting a camaro, that automatically denies me the right to own one? please

I would get the L.
I bought mine used. Not a problem in the world.
Maintenance costs are right in line with other high performance
vehicles. Insurance is WAY cheaper for the L (at least here in AZ).
And as far as stock SS's beating stock L's. . . . . .
I have beat stock ones, and been beaten by stock ones.
Driver error was the deciding factor in both races.
well, driver error and the fact that I had a LazyBoy recliner in the bed when I raced the second one!
