2003 cobra

It looks like it will have 390 hp. That should really be a nice ride. Blueovalnews tends to be correct on most of thier reports

That sucks!!

A 70 HP increase by adding a blower to a 4.6L DOHC motor?
What a major disappointment!!

The aftermarket company's are getting 100-130 rwhp from 6 PSI and 170-200 rwhp from 10 PSI of boost.

I don't get it.
Lighting gets 120 HP increase on a SOHC motor.

Wonder how much they think anyone will pay for this. If its more than $2k above a regular Cobra it won't sell.

Well I guess I now know for sure I want a Lightning over the Terminator Cobra.

If that's an accurate number, it would be a bit disappointing. My hope is it's a ringer (underrated). It could be a simple pulley change would wake it up also...

Personally I'm just glad its coming with a blower, and especially the 6 speed is a welcome addition. Look at how the tuners have been able to wake these trucks up, and they (at least the 99-00's) were underrated also.

Im going to try and be optimistic and say this car is tuned down quite a bit. Maybe for insurance and EPA reasons, I dont know. From what I have read, it has a cast iron block, not aluminum which is a nice thought since the 4.6 aluminum block would start spider webbing with high boost and horsepower. Look at what chips and pullies do for the L, and that alone makes me wonder what the 2003 will be capable of.
I hate to say it, but I will be in line for the 2003, and yes, the Lightning will have to be sold or traded. Though its nothing against the Lightning, I really love this truck, but I like the options available for the Mustang, and I really miss my 96 Cobra since I sold it. Plus my daughter needs a little more room than what she gets in her car seat riding shotgun in the L.

Where do I sign.....

400 hp is the "magic" number for insurance companies. There's a reason for it to be RATED less the 400.

Underated...I hope

I guess I should have considered it could be seriuosly underated. I was hoping it would be around 440 HP.

I'm sure the tuners will perk up this car, but I wanted at least 440 before the perking started. A stock 01 Cobra with 10 PSI Procharger makes 500 HP.

I'm betting it is underated. I'll wait to see some real world numbers.

why would any of those numbers be dissapoiting for ford to add a blower.. You do realize that ford has to be able to call the engine reliable and supply a warrenty for it ( no matter how picky they might be about those) I suppose bottom line ends up being,, yeah ford could put out much more boost out of a blower added to their 4.6 stock,,, but when it comes down to it they probably have to tune it down a bit to "try" and keep the engine reliable A ton of people would be very upset if unmodded ford engines started blowing left and right..

Yeah, what Toast said. At least we'll get a lil more competition from our little brothers :-D

Cool

Hey! If you're going to post about it GET IT RIGHT. It's a 4.6 DOHC (you know 4 valve). Roush and Saleen get to play with the 4.6 SOHC (2valve). I'll save the rest. Go to Chicago. This will be the best Cobra.
