Hit and Run question in Massachusetts?

First off, no I did not get hit in my Lightning. But my girlfriend did get hit in her 2000 Maxima the other morning. She signaled for the kid to pull over in the next parking lot on the right. While she was pulling in he took off. She called the police and told them what happened and they came down to meet her. No one pulled over to help or make sure she was ok. She was able to get the first 4 letters of the plate but could not get the rest because he took off to fast. She also said it was a mustang and from her description of the car I believe it is an 83-86 Mustang. It had the pushed in headlights and the square head rests. Any way, the police said they are not able to find out who it is with out the whole plate number, is this true or are they just to lazy and is this small fender bender just not important enough? To me the police in this matter are disappointing. We both pay taxes just like everyone else and don’t ever call the police for help except when we see an accident on the side of the road, now the one time we need them to do a little research they act like the situation is not that big of a deal. If they don’t find the kid my girlfriend will have to pay the $500 deductible. This may not seam like a lot of money to some people but we are both saving to buy a house and we can use all the money we can get. Does anyone have suggestions on what we can do or is there anyone out there that can help?

Thanks for any help.

John

John that sucks

send me a e-mail or call me, my best friends brother in law is a cop and he is a insurance agent. I can call him and see if he can run a registry list of cars.

Tell Jen I am sorry she got hit, and that I hope she is OK.

Damn bro, I hope your girl is OK!

What happened to her is even worse, well kinda, than what happened to me...

I was working on my Vics in the driveway while my Town Car was sitting parked on the street in front of my house.... some idiot lady in a beat up old Grand Prix comes along, parks right in front of my Lincoln and goes somewhere... than I hear her car start again and look up, cause her fart exhaust was really loud, probably cause its old!

What happened next is absolutely ridiculous. I hear her drop it in the gear and step on it to the point that the wheels spun! The deal is she put it in Reverse and straight she goes into my Lincoln!!!! keep in mind there is absolutely no other cars anywhere around, just my damn car by my house on my street and she finds a way to hit it! The Town Car went back about two feet or so while parked and this b*tch runs out screaming: "Oh I'm so sorry, blah blah!"

I call the cops and like you said, the guy acts like nothing happened!!! He's telling her not to worry and all, and the b*tch listens to him.... She says since she doesn't see anything broken she's not paying for nothing!!!!!!

If I go to the insurance company they'll charge me my deductible... and considering all she did was bend the license plate out of shape, broke the license plate holder and broke one of the supports on the inside of the bumper that is holding it in place, the damage is really minor... but will cost around $400 to fix if I don't replace the bumper... if I do and pay for them to color match the Titanium Silver Mettalic paint... that will run over $1,000

If anyone on here any suggestions let me know... I have still yet to pick up the report, since it happened a week or two ago, and I don't know if my dad is willing to pursue it since its really his car although I drive it most often...

Bet the cops would be right there to get involved in a hurry if you drove by them with a loud afermarket exhaust though.

what u could do is :

1. Go through your insurance co. lay out your deductible
being u were parked your ins co . will recover 100%
of the claim, then they will reimburse u the deductible
in about 6 months or so.

2. get the police report, find out her ins co. call them ,
put in a claim, also being u were parked u should get paid
100% with no deductible. this way takes a little longer
but u wont have to lay out anything.

how do i know all this?
i worked for a bodyshop for 9 years.

also i believe u have 30 days to file a claim ,thats in ny anyway.

They won't. I'm sure the detectives could find out if they put the effort into it, but it won't happen.

I had that happen to me a few years ago, working retail I was sick as hell trying to keep from passing out. Some guy ran out of the store with a bunch of DVD's and I couldn't chase him down. Got 3 plate numbers and make/color of his car. Cops wouldn't do anything about it.
