Question Should I race him? (Mustang knowledge please!)

Well, a buddy of mine has a Vortech S/C 00-01 Mustang GT (w/aftercooler).... Only onther thing I can visually see is Nitto tires on the rear.

Here's my question....if he has anything else done to it, where should I look? Obviously a big blue bottle, anything else?

Good sources say he's just a GT with a S/C.. btw...here is a picture of the last S/C GT I ran (and he had M/T ET streets)

BTW, if I race him, I WILL have my chip, pulley, and ET Streets back on the truck... how do the ET Streets hook on regular road? Never tried them....

p.s. He's a rich boy, he said he'd race me anytime, anywhere, meaning, I can have time to prep my truck, and he won't have time to prep his car... also, he said that he'd match every penny that I put up (he told me this pulling out a wad of $100's)

Tell him to meet you at the track, and race him there. That way you will have your time slips to show how bad you kicked his butt.

well 00's and 01's run mid to low 14's on AVERAGE, some dip into the 13's. Then you add the unit. Hard to say what that makes him run??

If you can run around 12.70 id say try it. I would bet he will blow the tires away when your L leaves on those ET streets!!

also If he's go a clutch that is another plus because 90% of people do not know how/when to shift when goin down the 1/4 mile.

It all depends on how well he can drive and how his car is tuned. If he has had his car tuned properly and can drive your in trouble. But if he just threw the supercharger on the GT and isn't a great driver you got him. I would bet him $100 and go for it! Be sure to keep us posted on what you decide or the outcome!

Hey BlackBoLT 99 it looks like you were racing a 96-98 gt in pic.
I had one and even with a charger they only have 300rwhp maybe. The newer styles have much better heads on them and most dyno around 375rwhp with a good tune. Its all in the tune because on the 01 I remember that some people were having prob. with detonation, the 01 have a higher cr.Go to www.corral.net and look at some of their sigs.I think you will get him. What size pulley you got? Good luck.

I dont know much about Lightnings, but the mustang is most likely running a S trim. I belive the stock pulley give 8-10 psi,and I read an article in 5.0 mustang that the aftercooler ads around 35 hp at the wheels. He could be running as much as 16 psi though. His stang should be pretty stout. I would definitally say in the mid 12s. With my 89 LX 5.0, a 125 shot of nitrous, and some nitto drags I was running 12.80s with 1.80 60' times. Its gonna take some work for him to launch it without bogging or spinning like crazy, I would say it will be a decent race.

Mustang Question

My suggestion, is leave the mustang alone before you get bit! I was smoking Lightnings with my 97 Cobra w/ no bottle, and no S/C. He should run easly a 8 flat or high 7 in the 1/8, if they can drive. Good luck.

Jezze269 is close with his predictions.A s/c 5.0 will be in the high 12's with good street rubber .And remember..a stock 2000 or 2001 4.6 produces more power than a stock 5.0 .Some food for thought.

Joe DaSilva (mustang pro 5.0 racer...6 sec. car) who lives near me, and who i know quite well, has a 2000 GT with a vortech s-trim, exhaust, nittos, underdrive pulleys, and 3.73 gears runs close to a 12 flat. He is also one of the best drivers I know of, but I'm sure an inexperienced driver could run low to mid 12's with ease. He ran a 13.6 with just nittos and underdrive pulleys. Hope this helps.

Race him for what you can afford to lose. We all lose sometime and at least you will have an idea of exactly how much slower or faster you are than his car. Don't take racing too seriously. There are faster cars...better drivers etc I spoke extensively with everyone I have lost to. Suprisingly they all offered some tips to help me get faster and were pretty nice. Racing is fun!!!!

Yea go for it , if you win you win , if you lose then its time for more mods. The 2001 Cobra and S-Trim are a good combo, Plust the Aftercooler isn't cheap. you say he has Nitto's , DR's ??
it will be a good race. it is very possible that car ould good upto 118mph in the 1/4. My Saleen did with a paxton on street tires. I will be a drivers race. best driver will win. good luck. but take the experience and use it next time

So true, so true! The last time cablebandit and I raced, my suggestion afterwards was to only count to the 1/8th mile --it seems he picks up a lot of speed after that..................LOL(oh! he said "when he lost"--nevermind, he whupped my backside.)

I say race him for what you can afford. If its a stick theres always driver error thats on your side. And so what even if hes a great driver and does beat you still have to remeber one thing your in your 5000 lbs truck and his in his what 2500 maybe 3000 lbs car. So race him you lose im sure it wont be by much and you are almost double his weight. But if you win you can always say my truck thats as aerodynamic as a brick P!$$ED on your half my weight car. So just remeber still a truck your in so no shame losing to a car and 9 out of 10 times we will smoke them in our trucks. Thats one thing i love about these trucks we can run with most of them.
